What the hell is my cat doing? |
|
I keep a mink blanket folded on my couch for napping. My cat, however, likes to sit on her hind legs, and stretch her front two paws out in front of her, and will push down on the blanket with her paws...kind of like she's kneading it. It seems to satisfy her and make her relax.
What the hell is she doing?

1. That's what kittens to when they're nursing |

She probably thinks it's as warm and cozy as mom used to be. :)
My dog will "suckle" in his sleep even though he's almost 11 years old. I used to be able to tuck a finger between his lips and he would "nurse" on it for quite a while. Yeah, as you might expect we have an unusually strong bond now. ;)

2. We had a cat that used to do that when he was several years old. |

Anything soft and squishy, he would knead like that and purr up a storm.

My birds grind their beaks, and make soft little crickety sounds when they are content, or getting ready to take a nap. Dogs have little behaviors they do in much the same way.
