Warning on essential oils and pets (esp. birds)
Pet lovers--

Most of you here probably already know about this, but I just wanted to pass it along. I'm very into essential oils, but just because they're natural doesn't mean they're always safe.

Essential oils in even very small amounts can be dangerous to pets, especially birds, who, as you know, are tiny and ulrasensitive to fumes. This is a good link on it (also follow the other links on the bottom for more info).

P.S. I love all the pictures of your babies!

1. I have heard much of this before and are
very careful what we use around the birds. I have used e oil on Ollie's neck while she was plucking and it worked great. Do you ever burn candles in your house. I have had some say this is a no no... but we always did around the parakeet and he was fine. What I'm afraid killed him was DOW Bathroom cleaner. My Hubby used it in the Kitchen exhaust fan and he was dead in 2 days. Never again!!

2. Most anything
with a strong odor can be a problem for birds.

I have heard of birds dying from in just a few hours from Febreeze exposure.

Have know of birds who will pluck when living in a home with smokers.

3. That's right, Febreze too...I'd forgotten about that. And Teflon...
There was a thread on DU somewhere about Teflon fumes and birds.

4. I never use sprays or chemicals in my home anymore....
no sprays, no harsh chemicals, no carpet cleaner, etc. No oven cleaners, no febreeze, nothing. :)

I use a natural product TKO Orange to clean, it's amazing.

I love aromatherapy, but don't diffuse it, just use it in the bath, etc, so Murphee doesn't get subjected to it. :)
