My cat has asthma. Anyone have experience with this? |
|
I haven't really treated her yet. She is 11 and has coughing jags every once in a while. The vet didn't seem too concerned but it is getting a little worse so I think I have to start the treatment.
Anyone have experience with this that they can share? Thanks!

1. TWO of my cats had asthma when they were alive |
|
The vet injected cortisone in one of them (it lasted about six months), but the other was semi-feral, so he couldn't hold him down to give him the shot. It took four vet techs to hold Bandit down so the vet could give him his vaccines.

3. Get her to the vet immediately, |
|
we waited with our cat for about a year and she died very shortly after taking her to the vet. She was very ill when we took her. Do you have forced air heat (especially an older oil fired furnace? that seemed to be what got to her, as she slept right in front of the air vent).
Check for sinus problems too.
:hi:
Best of luck!!

4. If you need to treat her on a regular basis |
|
Check out aerokat.com. They sell adapters that fit on the end of human inhalers and allow your cat to breathe in the medication. Your vet will need to do some blood tests and perhaps an xray first for diagnosis, and then he or she can prescribe an inhaler and you can order the adapter. This makes it easy for you to give the medication - you put 1 or 2 puffs of medication into the adapter and just let your kitty breathe it a few times. Very simple and avoids the trauma and side-effects of systemic medication.
