Bird owners: Check the dog section for the same toys |
|
:grr:
I recall, from a marital aid test of all things, a toy that was a dog toy. I saw something similar for a bird, so I went to the dog section.
The dog section had a few of the toys sold for parrots. Identical.
But the dog toy prices were a couple of dollars less. :wow:
My lesson learned: Check out the dog tiys first. :-)

1. Yeah, you know those plastic balls on string they sell for birds? |
|
They sell the same balls, loose, as cat toys. I have noticed the same toys used for different animals.

8. Being a parrot, of course Grace loves chewing. lol |
|
She has stripped a lot of the bark off her manzanita perch; she has a hanging toy with some blocks and other pieces of wood on it that she's chewed up nicely. Thanks for the website. Since it's in Canada, I don't know if it would be a problem to have something sent to the US. I have a friend in Toronto with a parrotlet, and she has sometimes had problems with ordering from the US.
Thank you for the compliment for Grace; I'll pass it on to her (not that I have to, because she knows how adorable she is). :-) Right now, she's flying back and forth from her cage and peeping furiously. LOL
How's Murphee doing? I hope she's not still laying eggs.

I've bought from them several times, I like the products. They've got stuff for all birdies...including parrotlets :)
Just gave Murphee a shower, she's doing fine! Thanks! :D

2. I know a few great sites for getting GOOD toys.... |
|
So if you are interested, Toad, let me know. Canadian prices too so you should get a good deal. :)
I've gotten bird toys that were also rabbit toys....

bigger parrots that shred things should not really be given toys that are not meant for birds. they end up ingesting things that a dog might not. at least stick with toys intended for really big dogs, that will stand up a little better to the assault.

5. My Nelson used to go through $100 worth of toys in a week |
|
that's when I learned to put my money into the indestructible toys like hanging steel baskets or stainless steel shapes that you can tie things to or stuff things in.
Everyday I would just clean them off and fill them with dry fruits and nuts or tie strips of clean cotton or untreated rope to them (short strips...birds can get into trouble).
His favorite play things were the left over tube from paper towels and selected junk mail (No glossy dyes or staples).
When I see toys at the bird store I am tempted but it's all so expensive and (depending on your bird) can be dangerous. I did occasionally buy one of those big tubs of wooden dowels and beads but would just embellish the steel toys with them.
Good luck, Walker

6. Infant toys make good bird toys |
|
I have used baby toys for my Senegal and Conure. I have found wooden blocks and other baby toy items that would be bird safe at yard sales.
I also found one of those "play benches" with attached rings and other whizzy things that my birds love. I put it on the playtop of their cages and it works like "bird glue" :}
