Cat Treat Question: best way to prepare giblets. |
|
Edited on Mon Nov-22-04 11:56 AM by Beware the Beast Man
My wife and I made our Thanksgiving turkey over the weekend. We left the giblets out since we're not huge fans of organ meat, but thought they'd be a nice treat for our cats. Should we just roast them in the oven & let them cool, or do you all have better ideas? Is it not a good idea to give it to them at all? Thanks!

should be boiled and I've seen that done for giblet gravy. It takes a long time to cook them.
Personally I don't think cats like them much, hard for them to chew. They'd much rather have some fine breast meat torn in little pieces.

2. I've found that cats just love them, cut in tiny pieces |

I sauteed them, in a very neutral oil, like Canola, but boiling may be the best way to go, as was just suggested. I just wonder if the flavor isn't cooked out, unlike sauteing, which concentrates it? A lot of the attraction for both cats and dogs, is the smell.
I just re-read your post, and it seems like you were considering broiling. That may be the best way, since it would produce the smell, but not contain additives or leach the flavor out. You may have a winner. I never thought of this, since I never did it. Let us know what you do and how it works out. In any case, lucky kitties.:-)
