Dewey, my foster dog.
Dewey was headed for the pound. His family is moving to Florida and can't take him because they had no permanent housing. They were going to drop him at the pound. The rescue group sent me an e-mail and I decided to foster him. I knew he would be put down if he was sent to a shelter because he is about 11 years old and people just don't want to adopt older dogs. He is unique as he has one blue eye and one brown eye.

We foster a dog as well. He's our third foster since we started working with the local animal rescue. His name is Bruno, he's only 9 months old and he's huge! It's a running joke that he's a Jack Russell/Saint Bernard mix. We honestly don't know what he is. Here's his photo:

It's amazing to me the number of beautiful dogs and cats that end up in rescues. We adopted almost 20 animals this holiday weekend and have already taken in almost as many.

Thanks for being a foster parent. It helps.

2. He's a real cutie!
What a heartbreaking story.....How could you leave a pet you have had for 11 years? I hope the little guy finds a good home soon. He's lucky to have you :-).

someone here in Austin dropped their dog at the pound because they had redecorated their house because "he clashed with the decor."
I wonder if their kids clashed with the decor too.

3. You're a good soul
Dewey looks like a sweetheart. I'll never understand people buying a purebred when so many great mutts die in pounds everyday.

5. He looks like a great dog :)
If I knew for sure the cats would like him, I'd take him home :)

I want a dog, I'm just waiting until I find the right one that can deal with apartment living and such :).

6. Hey, he gets along with cats and other dogs..
He lived with two cats and a bird. And he is an inside dog. He is in the house all day until I come home and take him and my Rottie for a walk.

9. Good Job...
I know how hard it is to find homes for older animals. Most people even balk at adopting a 3-4 year old one.

we just adopted Mint - we had fostered her last September-October, but she came back because the family is divorcing and can't find a place that allows dogs... We had fallen in love with her during her foster days and there were many tears shed when she was orignally adopted... And we've been saying since then, that if she comes back - we'd adopt her..

we are also still fostering another greyhound - Abeline, hopefully she will be adopted soon. She's a sweetie too.

Mint is on the left (3 years old), Sunny on the left (5 years old)

Our Airedale - Dax (9 yrs old this month)

Our current foster - Abeline - turned 2 yrs in May

Our foster from Feb - Ibu (he was adopted by a nice family in March)

12. If no one does, than I will just keep him.
I have $147 invested in him from his shots and heartworm test.

13. Similar Terrier story...
Both of these Terrier mixes were on their last days when I adopted them. Can't understand how the cute mutts always get passed up.
