My dog is home from the hospital!
Thanks everyone for all your good thoughts. Magic is home from the hospital after being treated for pancreatitis. He seems to be doing OK, although a little tired and unable to jump up on things (like sofa or car seat). He has 3 pills to take twice a day, and will be on special food for life now. The vet gave me canned Hill Science Diet ID formula for this week, and then he can go on the dry if I want to do that. Does anyone know if this is a good brand for this type of food?

I had to leave him to go to work, about 30 minutes after I got him home. I felt so guilty! But I will be getting off work early to spend more time with him.

Bella

1. Great news!!!
I'm so glad that he pulled through! I had a feeling that he would beat it. :-) :toast: :bounce:

I don't know about the Hill's. You might contact www.waggintails.com and ask for a holistic recommendation from them for his condition (they have an "ask the vet" link on their site). Hill's lobbys vets like mad to carry their products, but since I don't know what is required for Magic's condition I don't want to suggest an alternative just yet.

3. great, great news! Science is a good diet prescriptively. I use
Solid Gold otherwise, a german imported hypo-allergetic food. My weiner dogs get gas otherwise. :)

5. He's back in the hospital today :(
He would not eat at all when I got him home, and would not take his meds, even if they were in a piece of cheese or some peanut butter. He threw up twice and was very lethargic. The vet said she is going to keep him again at least one more day, push more meds, and see how he does. :(

7. Hang in there
It's not uncommon to have a relapse. Magic needs a little more time.
 to you both.

8. Don't feel guilty
your dog knows you love him and knows your routine. He is probably comforted by the resumption of the normal way of life at your home.

He knows you love him so and he will sleep peacefully waiting for your return as always.
