PLEASE HELP! Kitten throwing up!
Edited on Sat Nov-27-04 06:24 PM by Groggy
My daughter just brought Sadie, her 4 mo. old kitten down along with her other cat to stay with us. We have our own one year old cat and a dog and all yesterday Sadie the kitten and our cat were fighting/playing and Sadie was hissing a lot. She's afraid of our dog, but the dog completely ignores her. Last night Sadie threw up a little and has been throwing up off an on all day today. Its foamy white. She seems fine otherwise. She has been drinking some water, but I'm not sure if she has been eating. Could she be throwing up because of the stress or do you think she could have eaten something?

Help!!!

1. My cat did that too. If I remember correctly it may be like indegestion
make sure she is eating. My cats had that problem when they didn't eat if they were nervous.
Some times it is yellowish due to stomach acids.

2. If you can, isolate the kitten in a room by herself
and keep her quiet and warm and offer her dry food, water and a clean litterbox, it can be a spare bathroom in the house (with the lid on the toliet down). It is probably very stressful to be without her person. If you have some piece of clothing belonging to your daughter put that with the kitten in her quiet space.

3. Probably too late tonight
But the vet can give her something to make her stop. My cat did that once when he was younger...just kept puking all day. As soon as the vet worked her magic he was fine.

4. Did your daughter get her kitten vaccinated for feline distemper?..
According to my home vet book, early warning signs of the disease are a loss of appetite, apathy, and frequent frothy yellow vomit.
The cat often vomits right after drinking water.

I'm not trying to alarm you, but I think I would take her into a vet, especially if she did not receive the vaccination series. Kittens can survive distemper but with a lot of supportive care.
Hopefully it is just stress, but if she doesn't perk up tomorrow, I'd take her to a vet. (You didn't say how long you are watching her for.) Better to be safe than sorry.

If you are interested in posting questions abt this on a small cat related website which has a number of very experienced cat owners, including a few who have had cats with distemper,
you can try:

You can say that 'Lucia' referred you. Some of the posters can get a little excitable there, but you can get good information.
