Have you ever eaten your pet's food?

Just wondering if you all have ever tried your dog or cat or whatever's food. I have. My cat loved these treats my sister got for him. He would just go wild. Finally, I couldn't stand the curiousity anymore and thought I'd try one. It tasted like tuna flavored cardboard. I've tried his dry catfood too, Wellness. Bleech. But he eats it like there is no tomorrow. So, am I the only one to try this?

1. I always try my dog's food if I give them something new.

I figure why would I give them something I'm not willing to try myself. It usually tastes like crap but the dogs love it.

I also tried a guinea pig yogurt drop treat when I worked in a pet supply store. It actually wasn't that bad. Tasted like bland orange yogurt.

when I was 8 years old. I ate my dog's biscuit (just a generic brand biscuit). It didn't taste good and I have never tried eating my dog's food since.

But I have to admit that Trader Joe's molasses all natural biscuits look pretty good, lol.

but only if I'm hungry and there's no food left in the house.

6. I knew a guy using the university gym--

--as a start for an Olympic weightlifting berth in the flyweight category. He used to eat Purina Cat Chow for the cheap protein--said it wasn't too much different from a lot of prepared snack foods for people in the taste department.

as a teenager that I made myself taste his food just to make sure it was edible. He much preferred mine, particularly granola for some reason.

8. not their food, but I often taste any medication they need to take..

to see how palatable it is. My vet wasn't kidding when he said Albon taste like custard! :)

9. I like homecooked food for pets. I have designed pet recipes according to

the Naturalist Vet Dr. Pitcairn. It is normal veggie fare and meats are optional. If I could timewise and financially, that is what I would do: cook my pets food. But for me that is simply not possible w/ my current lifestyle and schedule.

But it's sobering to realize that some seniors are living off pet food because it's the only thing they can afford. Thanks, Republicans and your holy "free market"...!

13. Actually, I can imagine one exception...

...when your pet is eating your food rather than a pet food.

(During the last few years of her life, our Scottie would have ground beef, cottage cheese, and shredded carrots. Since all that's human food, I guess you could say we were eating the same food.)

11. We prepare our dogs dinner

They have a combination of brown rice, chicken and dry food. Often we have the same thing sans the dry food. It is quite good and our dogs are spoiled rotten.

12. I've tried all of my horse's foods but never cat or dog food.

Actually, I did try a dog biscuit once. It was sort of bland and crunchy. My horse eats whole oats, Grow 'n' Win (feed which supplements a grass and bermuda hay diet) and organic flaxseed along with salt and mineral supplements and the occasional sugar cube. She will not eat apples or carrots! Silly filly! :)

16. One of the things recommended for serious

backpackers is not to carry trail mix when you're in the back country but to carry a 'hot' dry dog food instead. It'll keep you going and you won't be tempted to eat it all before you need it like you would with trail mix.

21. I ate a "doggie Oreo" on a dare from my daughter and her boyfriend.

They are made from carob rather than chocolate and really taste quite good.
