I've been adopted!

A few weeks ago I posted about waking up and finding a black cat in my home who had spent the night.

He kept showing up every night at food time and sometimes during the day over the last few weeks.

But lastnight I woke up to find him sleeping in my bed next to me. He refused to go out today and tonight when I let my cats out.

I think he has officially moved in.

I'm sure he thinks that since I have 5 cats already I won't notice the 6th. My bed is kinda crowded with cats. I have been treating him like the rest of them.

I'm guessing he is around 5 months old. He's smaller than my male 6mo, and bigger than my two female 6 month old kittens.

The problem is, I don't know if he aleardy has a home. He's far more muscular on his skinny frame than my cats so he's clearly out doors. While I took these pics he showed me he is a toe biter, just like my cats. He may be a copy cat to fit in...





My cats have been hissing at him since the bed incident. All of them except my oldest - Mismatch. She just stares at him like, "ANTHER CAT???",

I don't know whether she's pissed or in shock.

1. Everyone needs a black cat!..

my Khan in particular lets me know when it is time to vacuum, when he emerges from under some piece of furniture a slight shade of gray.

I acquired a black cat in college who followed me into my building. I did put up a sign abt her, altho I confess it was small and there was only one of them...

Her name was Zara. Here she is:

Will you be bringing him to a vet, just to be on the safe side?

I just got a new job so I'm getting all of my kittens their shots. I was on unemployment before and couldn't becase I was busy getting 4 cats fixed/neutered, and one other cat it's shots, not to mention trying to feed everyone.

The shots thing is the only scary part about brining a new cat in. I can't really get mine their shots for about 2 more weeks.

I will have this one neutered and get his shots providing he sticks around.

I don't know for sure if he's homeless.

It's a problem taking on another cat because I'm only supposed to have one and I have 5. But heck, with four over the limit already, how can someone refuse another.

...ain't that the damn truth. The word is all over my street that we run a first rate cat hostel. And believe me, the neighborhood kitties take every advantage of it...:-)

6. That's the way it works here...

I've had many cats over the past twenty-five years, and have only had to go out and acquire one of them. The others have just shown up.

Most uncanny is that, whenever one of our felines makes the journey to Rainbow Bridge, a new one will show up, needing a home, within weeks or even days thereafter. I thought that was somewhat understandable when we were living in the same apartment complex as superconnected, where a lot of tenants would move to "no pets" apartments elsewhere and just dump their cats to fend for themselves :grr: , but figured that would come to an end when we bought a house in a development where most people were stable homeowners. Three new additions later, I realize I was wrong...cats have their own home-finder network, and will track you down no matter where you live.

4. They're so funny - they sure know how to look out for #1

we joke that they have survived all these years without evolving because they have the formula down pat. (Temple Grandin claims that cats have changed the least of all "domestic" animals)

They wake up every day, look around, say "is this the best deal around, or might the food/lodging be better elsewhere?". If yes, stay. If no, hit the road.

A neighbor asked us "was that your calico cat who came over to see what I was having for dinner? She wound her way around my legs, and put her feet up on my chair to see what was on my plate." Typical cat behavior -- someone somewhere might be having a better dinner than I am.

Sounds like this little black cat got the word that the Superconnected Cat Hostel has the best deal in town.

5. Par for the course in that complex...

When my ex and I moved there in the winter of '82-'83, one day we were doing our laundry, and left one of the laundry bags there while the washing machine ran. When we came back, we found a black kitten curled up asleep in the bag. He had been injured (probably in a fight with another cat), so we had to get him medical attention, after which he (officially known as "E.C. - The Extra-Cat"...after all, it was '83) moved in for several months until I found him a new home.

I suspect paisley would take your new arrival at once (P.S.: she just saw these photos -- I was right), except that we're already at our legal pet limit for the county, and I fear he'd probably get an even more hostile reaction from our three large, full-grown males than he's getting from your feline community.

cats don't tend to travel very far, so if he does, it is probably within a block or so. i would put up some posters.

Yes, I should start looking. Remember, he's not locked into my place, my back door is open 6 hours a night just so the cats can run in and out. It's me making up for making them stay in all day.

The apartment managers can't see them at night :). It would be bad if they saw six cats on my porch. Very bad.

9. what a cutie!!! I have a black cat too...she was a psycho kitty!

she hid toys and anything else that was on the floor in a pile under my bed. 4 years later she is still very skittish but she is such a lovegirl.

And there is something graceful(and magical)about black cats.
