Carrying an adult cat by the scruff of his neck
My 14-year-old, 10.6-lb cat loves this but it always makes me cringe a little when I do it. I know that kittens are often carried this way by their moms but my cat never grew out of it. I have only had this one cat in my life so I don't have much experience with them otherwise. So here are my questions:
Is there any danger in doing this with an adult cat as long as he doesn't object?
Is there any physiological explanation as to why he would enjoy this so much?
Do any of you folks out there with adult cats do this?

2. Mine's an American shorthair, too
Let's see if I have a picture...

But he doesn't like getting vacuumed. (Not used to the sound, I guess. ;-))

7. Thanks
He's a good fellow too. I have no complaints save for the occasional scratching and biting. :D

8. What a pretty cat! He looks so soft and cuddly, LOL!
And, if he doesn't like the sound of the vacuum, try a carpet sweeper. That's what I did for my dog who was terrified of the vacuum. Fuller Brush makes one that's commercial quality.:D

5. I had a cat who LOVED being vacuumed.
This guy, Leonard (RIP), would come running and roll over on his back whenever I turned on the vacuum. I'd vacuum his tummy and he'd purr. Very strange...

3. Your cat is small and perhaps that is the reason
but usually it's not a good idea to carry an adult cat that way (unless you support his bottom. Sometimes I'll hold that area and support the bottom with my other hand. It does make them think of Mommy but gravity can be their enemy.

4. I'll try the two-handed method at the next opportunity
I usually don't carry him that way very long but that's just because I chicken out pretty fast.
