Just an observation
How come PETA is doing nothing to help alleviate the pet situation in NO?

1. They are.
Edited on Tue Sep-13-05 03:55 PM by ET Awful
I've seen many links to their efforts.

They have an entire new domain dedicated to it. (I don't have the link handy, but it's been posted on DU a few times).

On edit: Found the link via Google (couldn't use DU search since we're at level 3). http://www.helpinganimals.com/f-latestnews.asp

3. Because they're usually loud and in your face when they are.
But it doesn't look like they're doing much. Fourteen people to rescue 50 dogs? With $29 million sitting in the bank?

And the 14 are VOLUNTEERS? When one man who doesn't have that much money hires a plane and gets out 200?

4. After reading about how they took animals from the NC shelters
and promptly euthanized them, I'm not sure I want them doing anymore. They euthanized these animals and threw them in the dumpster after assuring the NC folks that they could find adoptive homes for them.

5. I'm surprised they'd do either...
euthanize OR adopt. I thought they believed all animals should be free from human interference? They don't believe in having pets or guide dogs either.

14. You were there?
Awesome, cuz they could REALLY use some eyewitnesses right about now so that we can either prosecute the offenders or cut them loose.

28. This was big news in North Carolina about a month ago
PETA lost me with their Kurt Cobain ad in the 90s. To me it was just as crude and tasteless as the anti-abortion fetus ads.

15. Okay, fair enough. Then did you go to their website to see if they
were doing anything? It's all over their homepage. Did you even look into if they were doing anything before posting this?

Maybe you don't have that one bookmarked, either. It's www.peta.org

You can also check out another PETA site, that actually shows pix of PETA vols and their handiwork:

16. PETA lies. A lot
And tries to take credit for the work others are doing. I see them taking in money. I see them using volunteers and requiring the volunteers to supply transport and supplies. I DON'T see them using any of that $29 million they've already got in the bank for rescue efforts.

18. And apparently you're horribly misinformed.
Just saying. You should do some research before you go throwing "facts" out there like you somehow would actually look at their organization with an open mind. It's very un-progressive of you, IMHO. :)

19. You didn't answer my question(s)?
Did you actually look into this before posting, or were you just trying to make a point?

Once you've done that, prove up your post.

1. Taking credit for work others are doing;
2. Not using any of their money for rescue efforts.

I'll wait...

17. Pat Robertson's 'charity'
which has been used to operate his diamond mines in Zaire. It was #2 on the FEMA list of charities to donate to.

I am not sure I understand where you find any similarities. Could you clarify that for me?
Thanks.

25. I have big issues with peta. I sure wanted to believe in them, for years
Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 09:40 AM by superconnected
In my vegetarian pro-animal mind they should not be euthanizing animals. That especially includes because they want to do it more humanely than the humane society. My opinon after watching peta for 20 years is F@#k that org. I will not donate or support those extremest. Plenty of orgs really are out saving the animals. They need your money. I donate to Ears. The pat robertson comparrison to peta is excellent because both have narrow minded views and are capable of funding an animal rescue in Nola. That goes for the Red cross too. Currupt, narrow minded, greedy orgs.

I know peta gets some people that will support them at all cost because they want to believe peta is the ideal it should have been, but perhaps you should step back and take a more discerning look at them.
