Thanks for all of your input dear family!
I went to my Dr. today, and indeed I do have a full blown case of Thrush. He put me on Nystatin 100,000 susp. and I've already had two doses. I have to pick up some acidophilus 2 tablets tomorrow, as well as go for a slew of bloodwork. In addition to thyroid and colesterol tests, he's doing Diabetic profiles and Rheumatism tests. Evidently I made a big BOO BOO in my post yesterday, as my post got locked by the Mods, for which I apologize. I'm not sure how I could have worded it any clearer than I did. However I appreciate your suggestions, none of which I had a chance to try. I had to do the "walk in" thing at my Dr.'s, as I didn't have an appt. It hurt so bad, I was determined to stay there if it took all day, which it almost did!!! Just wanted to let you all know how it turned out! Blessings on you all!! JA P.S. He also suggested YOGURT daily for a while, and took me off my Advair inhaler.

1. glad you are seeing the doctor
And getting the bloodwork done. They are kind of ridiculously strict about getting medical advice, so you do have to word it carefully. I'm a little bit surprised that yours was locked since you made it clear you were going to talk to the doctor. That probably means it was one of our snooping friends from the skeptic group that turned it in, because I know someone from here wouldn't have done it.

Maybe instead of asking people for advice you can just say you would like some alternative healing methods for thrush, and not say you thought you had it.

I'm thinking title of thread-- "Thrush--any alternative remedies?"

Then in the post-- "A friend of mine was asking me if I knew any alternative remedies for thrush? Do you guys have any websites or alternative remedies that I can tell her?"

I like earthclinic website for stuff like this.

5. Glad you didn't have to use the gentian violet
It stains awfully.

There was a time when we used to know how to treat minor medical problems. People did not go to the doctor for everything. People shared ideas of what to do for a cold.

It does make a difference in that you are on Advair. I believe it makes you more susceptible to opportunistic infections such as thrush. And thrush was confirmed by your doctor, right?

Best wishes to you JA.

6. Right, it was.
Advair has a steroid base evidently, and although I've always been very careful about rinsing my mouth after use, my Dr. thinks that this was the culpret. He's having the bloodwork done to rule out other reasons for the dry mouth I've been having for the last few months. My Mom used Gentian Violet for my Dad once, and I think she used it on my tonsils when they were bad. He had Impetigo, and evidently it helped him, but it sure was messy as I recall!
