1. Is this an aspect in your own natal chart?
Edited on Mon Jul-25-05 03:46 PM by SimpleTrend
If so, you're the expert. How have you handled it? How does it seem to affect you? Have you noticed a difference between the direct versus apparant retrograde movement of transiting Saturn anywhere in your chart? What sorts of Saturnish type things have you noticed when your natal Saturn is being activated by either transiting Saturn or another object?

If this isn't your natal chart, then what or who is the aspect concerning?

Edited for clarity.

2. It's me
"issues like duty and responsibility are muddied by personal needs and desires. Often there is a dilemma between satisfying yourself or satisfying others. It seems difficult to compromise and frequently others demand that you place responsibility to them before yourself. These natives usually feel like they have to earn love and trust and do not find it easy to love unconditionally. Saturn is the principle of agnoia (ignorance or unwit) and here it functions through the Moon. This means that there is a lack of understanding of ones own feelings, and sometimes a tendency to neglect showing your feelings or emotions. There may be a tendency toward shyness and melancholy. It is often the case that the native finds it difficult to integrate personal and professional life. As a result they end up living two different lives."

My main question is how does the retrograde work with this aspect...everyone has a different opionion...one book or site says it lessens the effect, others say it increases the burden...just looking for opinions.

3. I'm a non-traditional student of astrology,

which means that until I can wrap my mind around a concept, I tend to ignore any intelligence based upon it. "I'm cynical."

On one hand, it cannot be argued that planets appear to move backwards in the sky, on the other hand, planets never really move backwards as far as we know (if they do, massive orbital changes are in process, we probably are already gone). Therefore, there are the strict traditionalists, and those looking for where the traditional methods can be improved. This is perhaps why there is so much disagreement, and is why I asked you the questions I did.

My Saturn is retrograde, but in a different sign. One thought that has occurred to me is that I tend not to be bothered by Saturn retrograde periods as much as conventional and traditional astrology frequently espouses. In fact, that was the source observation of some of my questions to you.

As we grow older we learn how to deal with a lot of the restrictions Saturn places on us, and in that way, we transcend its limits: we grow wise, but we also may develop much baggage in the process. Sometimes Saturn teaches us to follow rules, and if the rules it teaches us are those of sick society, its lessons can seem especially harsh and unjust.

Cancer is a sign 'traditionally' associated with the home and emotional life. Saturn in Cancer may suggest a great deal of attention is paid by you toward your home life (not necessarily your physical home), family relationships, and you're likely emotionally sensitive. It may also suggest that you've experienced some restrictions related to these affairs or things may have happened that you may look back upon with some inner regret. There may be issues of emotional hypersensitivity, possessiveness, and restrictions of those, as well as other areas related to the symbology of water and restriction.

As far as retrograde versus non retrograde, I still haven't made up my mind. Look at your chart, watch things happen to yourself (from a safe emotional distance), record those dates, and see if you can find any correlations to retrograde versus non-retrograde. If you do, be sure to tell us what you've learned!
