Gotta recommend a TV show

I just started watching last season's eps on Hulu and I'm already hooked. It's Being Erica. I guess the new season just started on SOAPnet (WTH is SOAPnet?) but the entire first season is on Hulu, so I'm starting from the beginning.

It's about a thirtysomething woman whose life crashes (loses her job, gets dumped by her boyfriend) and has generally made a mess of her life. A "therapist" enters her life out of the blue who offers to help her--but his way of helping is to have her make a list of all her regrets, then he sends her back in time to fix them. Kind of a personal Quantum Leap, if you will.

Anyway, I'm loving it, and I thought maybe the folks of ASAH would as well. After all, with quotes like these, why not? (Erica asks if she's going to be stuck in her own past--this time at a high school dance.) Therapist: "No one's ever stuck--anywhere. You are where you need to be right now. And when you're finished doing whatever it is that you're meant to be doing, then you move on."

1. Reminds me of one of my fave movies.......

Peggy Sue Got Married! My family actually laughed because I referenced that movie so much.

2. How do you feel about watching things online?

I've never watched a series online, but I'm absolutely intrigued by some of the possibilities it presents.

I suppose some movies will always be big screen movies: Avatar, Star Wars and the like. And there is something to be said for the whole theater experience.

Yet for a series, and the potential to dive into much more than the pure "theater experience," I think this is the wave of the future.

Someone at DU weeks ago mentioned a spin-off soap of The Guiding Light that was online. I don't have an interest in this particular series, but the concept has fascinated me ever since seeing this.

I'm really thinking about pitching this for the novel series I'm working on, especially since there is so much research available that never made it into the novel that could be fleshed out more in this interactive manner. It's a much more personalized, engaging relationship between the characters and viewers; the characters could be blogging; resources about information found in the series could be further explored in wikis, discussions forums, etc.

A real brand could be built this way, and hopefully with more control and thus more integrity.

What do you think about that?

Don't you think computers and TV will merge? Most everything will be "online". At some point?

I know they're coming out with TVs now which are more and more able to adapt to using the screen to be online.

6. It's the only way I see anything these days

MG Jr. bogarts the TV with Nickelodeon and the Xbox, so I just go online and watch everything I'd normally get on my TiVo list. The networks are much better at getting shows up on their sites and Hulu right away. (The exception is my current favorite show, Men of a Certain Age--TNT takes nearly a WEEK to get the newest ep online. :grr: )

Anyway, yes, I agree--side stuff in webisodes and character blogging is becoming very popular as fans are constantly on the lookout for "extras". I believe I read somewhere that when cast members of The Office have to be "working" in the background, they're updating their real blogs online.
