Does anyone here have any experience with, or know |
|
anything about clairaroma?
I was not aware of its existence until recently. I didn't even know there was a name for it.

1. I didn't know there was a name for it, either. |
|
But I have smelled aromas that couldn't be there normally, if that's what the event is called...

2. I have what I refer to as olfactory hallucinations |
|
quite often.
Most of them are pleasantly nostalgic from my youth.
I have a running joke with a friend because some of the music he likes from the 70's and early 80's is by British bands and I told him how I used to go to clubs in England and they were crowded and many of the guys would slather on Brut aftershave over lots of not so pleasant body odors. So when I hear certain music, I invariably have olfactory hallucinations of Brut and perspiration. Ughhhhhh So now there is a new genre of music. It's called "Brut scented."

3. I understand it is fairly common in those with |
|
epilepsy. I remember reading that somewhere years ago. I also knew someone with epilepsy who said she would smell oranges right before a siezure.

smells cigar smoke whenever her father "visits". Also, she is not the only one to smell it. Other people in the room have smelled it too.
It's funny you mention this because yesterday in a session with some unseen friends, the subject of smell came up. I was told to pay attention to smells. There may be some I don't recognize. And if I smell an electrical/toxic smell I should go in the house and not stay outside. Inter-dimensional stuff apparently going on.

6. No, but the sense of smell is supposedly (I'm not a doctor) rooted in the hindbrain, |

the old reptile brain. A powerful aroma from childhood, re-experienced, can bring back deep sense memory from that time.
Would clairaroma allow you to phone your spouse prior to cooking dinner and compliment them ahead of time?

7. That's not it, exactly. |

Maybe I am being haunted.
I have had powerful aromas bring back memories of past times. I think that is common.
I don't think clairamoma is precognitive, unless it inspires one to cook or eat something they have smelled when it was not actually present.
Olfactory hallucinations are common in epilepsy. And they can signal brain dysfunction. I will be getting a thorough physical soon, because I hope to have cataract surgery sometime in the spring. I will mention this, to eliminate any possibility of a physical problem.
Usually these things are ONE powerful or noticeable aroma. I have been experiencing combinations.
I will try to explain what I mean by "haunted." There is nothing scary or unpleasant about this. I live in an old farmhouse. My nearest neighbors are far enough away that I can't see them that clearly when they are in their yards. I can't make out the models of their cars. I can't smell their grass being cut, or their flowers. They are all half a mile away or a mile away. The nearest restaurant is in town, and it is about three and a half or four miles away. Also, it is winter now. It is 7 degrees out today. Everything is closed up tightly.
Sometimes, when I am going to sleep, or just waking up in the early morning, I smell breakfast cooking. I can smell scrambled eggs (I know they are scrambled) and toast. Sometimes I smell coffee. A couple of times, I have smelled pancakes cooking. I smelled the syrup, and the little sausages being served with the pancakes. I could smell the hot griddle where the pancakes were being cooked. One morning about 5:00 a.m., I smelled toast so strongly that I went to the kitchen to see if my husband was there having a snack. He wasn't. (He's a printer who gets home about 7:30 a.m.).
A few times, I have smelled dinner cooking. Once it was pot roast (No side dishes, LOL).
This does happen when I am trying to sleep. But it always wakes me fully. It makes me sit up so I can identify the odors. They do not go away when I am fully awake. If I get up and walk around, the odors are still there. They persist until I go back to sleep or give up and get up for the day. It is hard to get back to sleep.
This is very real. I will try to rule out a physical cause. I can't help but wonder if some long dead farmer's wife is haunting the place, preparing large farmer's meals on her woodburning cookstove. There was such a stove here at one time. It was here into the 1950's.
The people who sold us this house were wonderful. They loved the property. If one of them is here, it is out of loving memory, and it is benign.

10. i like imagining it's the old farmwife happy people are there to cook for. |
|
i'd try to invite her to "go to the light" and "move on to the other side." but i'd also ask her to impart some of her favorite recipes, so they'll be remembered, if she chooses.
that's a rather sweet disturbance...

She can stay if she wants.
I am waiting to see if anyone else smells anything. My husband has never mentioned it. If any of my grown children or any other guests mention it, I will discuss it with them. But I don't want to talk about it for several reasons. If I plant the suggestion, some people will smell things. Some will think I have lost my mind. Others will tell me to go to the doctor to rule out a physical cause. (I will do that anyway).

12. well, i'm of the opinion that souls should move on, but does it matter? :) |
|
you can do as you please!
i just think that a kind soul that let's a ghost know that they are dead and gone is better than general decay and craziness that settles on old areas. and at some point the location is torn down, after many years of being lost and disconnected from loved ones and confused at their general state, that the shock of losing even their nexus ends up being destabilizing and leads to some trauma. either way, everything works out in the end, albeit some ways slower than others.
but if she doesn't wanna go, and you don't need to keep her away for family safety, what's the harm?

14. It sounds like a wrinkle in time to me. Maybe during your |
|
going-to-sleep or awakening moments, you are being "transported" to a time when former owners of the house were cooking their breakfast, etc. I think it's wonderful.

8. A powerful aroma from childhood |
|
Anytime I smell that sweeping copound that janitors use I am instantly transported back to first grade. The first time I walked into the school the janitor was sweeping the hallway with it.

9. A friend of mine who was very psychic always smelled flowers around |
|
someone who was about to die. I never envied her ability. Since we were both young at that time, and most of the people we knew were young, she seemed to get a warning and sure enough in a matter of months that person would die in an accident or in some way that was before their time often on the battlefield as Viet Nam was raging at the time. She also smelled the flowers around old people and knew that they were about to die.

I often smell roses after I've done a particularly powerful ritual--even as late as the following day.
