It's amazing how I came into spiritualism (especially compared to how and where I was raised). The profound difference it has made on my life can not be said enough. I hope someone just dropping in can be helped in a similar way.

books ON-LINE!! If nothing else, it's a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaiing read. It's not so big a deal something OT was introduced -- we're all among friends here, I think.

3. I loved Lilydale back in the early 90's

have some great memories of that place.... not necessarily due to the spiritualists but because it is such a beautiful place and I had a friend doing classes there...
Still have a friend (Tom C) who lives/works/teaches there. :)

So would you ever care to share about the difference it has made for you in your life? Are you still active in it?

I was drawn to it many many years ago but have since been called other ways :) but I always enjoy getting "messages" from loved ones.....(whether directly or through others )

5. OMG, DR -- I had this thread open while I went and fixed/ate dinner

and so didn't see your response til after I posted mine. So imagine my surprise (oh, the synchronicity) of seeing YOUR post after I made mine. It seemed as if they were made nearly simultaneously, which they weren't.

How cool you spent time at Lilydale. I've never been there. Was it anything like how I described Chesterfield?

8. Well it goes something like this

I was born in the anthracite coal area of Pa. It's kind of bare knuckles type place ( or it was while growing up ). Like most in our area I was often in fights, hung around some rough characters etc. Then one day I felt guided into life after death, that turned into me reading heavily into mediumship, that lead into receiving a reading from a world renown medium where the closest person in my life came through, my grandmother and validated everything I knew I was feeling.

There was a time after meditating (in the beginning stages) where I asked spirit specifically to come through with something I would know unequivocally that what I felt was true ( not my over active imagination). Well no sooner was I done meditating when events started to happen. Lights inside my house started to go off, the tv shut itself off when I turned it back on it went off again, my outside driveway light went off and on. Electricity is a major part of my occupation so I know what happened had no physical way of occurring ( spirit gave me what I asked for , something I would know unequivocally).

The biggest change it's made in my life was taking me from a brash guy with a short fuse ( but always with a good heart) and completely turning me into the calm open minded person I am today.

There is more but I don't want to bore the heck out of everyone. I just hope others can somehow pick up some of the good energy I started this thread with and have their life change as well as mine has.

4. Oh, what a walk down memory lane

My mother was a Spiritualist (married to a Catholic, if you can imagine that!). I fondly remember going to her church services sometimes, going to Camp Chesterfield in Indiana (not far from Indianapolis), going to seances of various types. Good stuff -- wonderful and fascinating things from my childhood.

I always loved the recitation of the Principles at the beginning of almost every service. I loved the hymnal, too -- some of the traditional old favorites like "I Come to the Garden to Pray," and others not coming to mind at the moment. I'd almost like to have one of their hymnals again (if it hasn't been too updated).

Camp Chesterfield was an extraordinary place. As soon as you walked onto the grounds, the peace -- the ultra-healing peace -- was palpable. I don't think I've ever experienced quite the same intensity of peace any other place I've ever been.

9. I was actually raised Catholic

but never identified with it even after First Holy Communion and Confirmation. I haven't as yet visited Lily Dale but this is top priority for me and my girlfriend. Once our schedule allows it we will be there.

Your writing of Camp Chesterfield and the feeling you give behind it has such a glowing energy about it, thanks for sharing that.

In a post a lil further up this thread a gave a brief explanation of how a guy like me came to spirit and i'll be forever grateful!

:hi: Thanks Amerdem.... for sharing your story. I know that part of Pa can be pretty darn rough...I was actually born in the opposite corner of the state(Amish country). That is so cool that you found something to touch you in that way.


I think you'll love Lilydale ( altho I haven't been there for at least 10 years), there is a timeless quality about the place and like Eloriel mentioned above for Chesterfield, a sense of peace and maybe contentment permeates the place. Hope you and your girlfriend get to go...I loved the swans and the old Victorian hotel amidst the old maples...and flowers everywhere!!!

No wonder spirits want to hang out there :)
