funny conversation at the garage yesterday morning

Got up bright and early to be the 1st one to the garage to swap out the studded snow tires for summer on my antique civic. 2nd person to arrive was a woman who looked about my age on close exam, but something "youthful" about her carriage and aura, driving a new looking, champagne-colored sienna. Inside, the tv was showing footage of the eruption.

She asked quitely about the footage. I explained about the 2nd eruption...she'd heard about air travel disruptions. I went on a bit about how these eruptions would likely play out, and some of the general science around it.

She then commented quietly on how odd it is...that it seems to be happening everywhere at once, the recent large quakes, now this. I smiled and explained, "Mama earth is not happy with her children." She replied, "That's exactly where I was headed."

What a pleasant surprise it was to meet someone who gets it, here in the middle of freeperville! :D

BTW, I read yesterday that in the case of the Iceland earthquakes and eruptions, global warming is at least partly to blame. Here the geology is such that glacial ice that was lodged on top of Iceland has melted and run off, releasing pressure that was holding everything more or less in place.
