Neuro-Linguistic therapy? This is another new finding. I wanted to know what NLP stood for and was interested to find it to be an interesting therapy sometimes used with hypnosis. In the end it helps with tapping into empowerment, I believe.

1. I have recently completed
training at the Hypnotherapy Academy of America, in Santa Fe, NM. It included some NLP training. They also offer an additional two weeks of NLP training with the man who is possibly the absolutely best NLP person in the world. He did the NLP training, as abbreviated as it was, during the ten weeks I had at the Academy.

NLP is a very general and vague out there term. There are a large number of NLP programs and promises.

The problem with much of NLP training is that it is often offered as a way to manipulate people. At the Academy, it is a part of a larger, integrated, program of studies. The Hypnotherapy Academy of America has a two week program in NLP training, taught by, in my opinion, the best NLP person out there.

I am hoping to do the NLP training here in January of next year. I can't do it in August, because of prior commitments. I can't begin to describe to you how phenomenally ethical the training at the Academy is, how thorough it is, how much they cover. If you can hook up with someone trained in NLP from the Hypnotherapy Academy of America in Santa Fe, you will do well. If ypu simply have a name of someone who says he (or she) is trained in NLP, ask a lot of questions about the training. And you can always contact the Hypnotherapy Academy in Santa Fe to ask them who has completed their program.

All I can say is that as I'm starting out, I'm just amazed at how thorough the training has been, how readily I know exactly what to do for the client. What I learned in the ten weeks I was there is absolutely incredible. As I have clients, I find that I can figure out, very quickly, exactly what they need to deal with the issues they have presented. The most incredible thing about hypnotherapy is how it provides a very fast way of dealing with issues that take months or years to resolve with traditional methods of psychotherapy.

If you want, PM me for more information.

2. Thanks, Sheila!
I'll look up the academy. It sounds wonderful that you have new training you are excited about. Is this the only certification you have or are there others? Usually one interest leads to another one. But I can certainly see the need for this line of work. I could use it myself to overcome some fear obstacles. And I know others that have major issues they need to deal with! Best of luck!

4. This is the only formal education I have in the field.
There are lots of programs and offerings out there, and I'm not sure how one would go about evaluating them. I got phenomenally fortunate when I stumbled into the Academy here.

Even though traditionally NLP doesn't involve the use of hypnosis or a trance state, over the years some practitioners have moved to using it along with hypnosis. There are few, if any, objective standards out there. There are generally no licensing or certification requirements in either field, just various ways to learn and then set up in practice.

In my class, which at the beginning was about 35-38 of us (it was taught in two week modules, so there was a certain changeover of students during that time)and quite a few were conversant or trained in other modalities. We had several nurses in our program, one massage therapist, several Reiki practitioners, and so on. I was probably the least interested in or knowledgeable about other modalities.

What I did learn was how incredibly powerful hypnotherapy can be, and already I've been amazed at how quickly important breakthroughs are achieved using it.

I am most interested in doing past life regression work.

5. I had a neurolinguistic lecture once about 20 years ago...
What I gleaned from this experience was how to "tell" where people are coming from, based on how they talk and move their eyes. It was an interesting tool to understand how to work with others, and whether you might get a point across better by that recognition.

When you understand the other person's access to their thought process, you could say that it's an empowerment too, but you also evaluate yourself. All discovery is self discovery, I suppose.
