Remembrances of Lives Past
With increasing access to the ideas of Eastern religions, interest in reincarnation is on the rise.

1. Good article!
:D

Though I'd like to comment on a few bits within:

And because nobody’s perfect, your soul is born again — not in another location or sphere, and not in any metaphorical sense, but right here on earth.

Or not. From the things I've read, such as from Delores Cannon, Doreen Virtue and other new-age teachers, you can reincarnate anywhere and from anywhere, not just from Earth.

Of course, those concepts might be too much for the average NYT reader, too ;)

“Reincarnation means never having to say you’re dead,”

Or it means getting to have fun in another life again :D

“How are these visions different from dream material: that’s quite the question.”

Not really. It's all a matter of how it feels. A lucid dream feels nothing like an out of body experience, because there's a vibrational difference and you are usually fully aware of that sense. As I've only ever done self-guided regressions (long, loooong time ago) I can't say what an in-person guided regression is like in comparison. But I would guess even there that the difference in feeling, the energetic sense, is quite different from those of a dream. That's not something I would expect scientists to believe, but it's reality for those of us that have experienced these things.

5. I've had a waking vision.....
very brief snapshot of a different time.
Some moths later I had a meditation after a reiki session. I was asked to chose the path either future or past. Naturally I chose future...........and went right to the past, any how! I went to the time & PLACE of that earlier waking vision. That was the source of the information that I needed to hear!............

2. Had a group regression once
I remembered life as a farmer in Kansas who had just lost his wife. Was surveying my land from atop a small hill, wondering what I would do with my family.

I had a brief flashback on my own one day: Saw my now-husband dressed in Confederate uniform, we were in a log cabin w/dirt floors. I was a girl about 5 years old & he was probably in his early twenties, & I knew he was my brother. The family was telling him good-bye, I had the sense that he died in the Civil War & that was the last time we saw him....in that lifetime.

7. I've got to include my mother's.
When she was born and was taken to the shaman as an infant, to figure out why she chose her parents, the shaman said that in her past life she was an entertainer and a good one. He said in those days, women in the business were thought of just above prostitutes and she didn't have many friends outside the business. A very lonely life, she never married and didn't have any kids, but her best friend was her maid (my grandmother) who had a bunch of kids. My mom, in that life, would pay for babysitters for her maid to travel with her sometimes and they were just like sisters

She was much older than the maid (my grandmother), so on her death she asked the maid if in another life if she wouldn't mind being her mom. She said, I want to come through you. It's funny, my mom is the only girl of 4 brothers - 2 older and 2 younger - and my grandmother always called her Little Sister.

Lots of other things, but for her life now. My grandmother didn't tell her the tragic stuff. When my mom and dad were leaving Africa, my mom thought my grandmom didn't care whether she staid or left. Grandmom broke down at the airport saying the shaman had told her that she would leave for many years to live in place she'd lived in that past life, but to let her go and she'd make it back to see her again in the few years before grandmom died. She held her breath all that time with never a hint of any traveling - until my father showed up

Another funny thing is my mom has Always Loved furniture from the Colonial days of America. You can imagine the crazy decor of our homes with tribal masks, ivory busts, old elephant tusks - and colonial stuff
