So I posted this in Discussion...
I would value your opinions and comments.

A new operating principle for a sane world

"A new operating principle for a sane world might be this: life is a cooperative journey among powerful individuals who can program themselves to create joy-filled lives.” ~ Bruce Lipton and Steve Bhaerman from Spontaneous Evolution

Will we evolve and step out of the muck we find ourselves in? Lipton sees it's already happening. Bruce Lipton is a biologist and he looks at humans from the perspective of an evolving organism called humanity. Spontaneous Evolution is one of THE best books I've ever read. He looks behind the curtain at both religion and science and shows where both institutions have failed us... and how it will take both to save us.

Are you fed up with the divisiveness of society? Our shared fate hang in the balance. We must come together with a vision for our future.

1. There is more awareness for some

of the futility of making material possessions your gauge of success.

Other people are having a harder time as they fret about not having material things.

I think these themes you bring up in your interesting posts are hard for some people to explore because A) they require an entire new mindset and B) most people want fast, easy solutions very explicitly spelled out for them.

We're in a time when the economy forces many middle class folk to adjust their behavior and their ideas of what makes their lives have value. How do you value yourself - teach your kids to value themselves - without the "props" of designer clothes and shiny new model cars? How do middle class people find meaning outside of the mall and without the packages Fedex used to deliver?

For some people, our consumer culture was their lifestyle, religion and social marker all rolled into one. Rather than explore why that is, they simply mourn losing that lifestyle, religion and culture and resist any attempt to examine the ugly side of what that culture cost them and others.

Slave labor making your clothes and picking your veggies is something to ponder. Doesn't our purchase of these products support slavery? How can we obtain the same products without oppressing and exploiting others?

Few want to think about this aspect of consumer culture, or about the waste produced or the environmental degradation. Most people are just pissed that they can't still buy more junk.

I hate to say it but it's true.

I realize wages have been stagnant for over a decade and health care costs have gone up like crazy and that a lot of people have done everything right and are still struggling. But i also know that we as a society are obsessed with "stuff" and trying to wean people off of "stuff" is almost impossible.

The economy is doing just that, fortunately, so those of us who want to live a simpler life don't look so wacky any more. I just wish there were more of us.

Anyway, my rant, in between bouts of trying to fix my well pump. Hopefully those on this group can send some Good Water juju to Tsiyu. :)

4. Thank you
just wrestled the motor off the old pump to see if i could put it on the new pump (motor shorted out =probably when i doused it with water priming it the other day), but i can't get the bolts off the new pump since my 10mm socket won't fit the wrench.

I love to fix stuff, I hate trying to locate all the tools necessary to fix stuff! Arrrgh!

my horses are growing impatient, meaning I need to go haul water soon or walk them to the creek. What fun....

thank you more than I can say for your words of juju!!!!!!

7. Thank you so much BB

After I logged off earlier, i discovered a 55 gallon rainbarrel was full, so the horses can have that for a few days while I figure out what to do and they'll stop yelling at me!

They've been watching me bent over the wellhouse all day, thinking, no doubt "What in the world is taking that woman so long? We're thirsty over here!".

Sorry for hijacking your thread. The "simple life" has its challenges.

But I wouldn't trade it :)

Thanks for the juju, BB

3. Tsiyu said it well....

How this discussion is on a different level than most are able to operate at currently, at least not at a general board such as GD.

I recommended and composed a reply -- twice -- but then didn't post.

I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the divisiveness and fragmentation and bringing the extremes together to create the whole.

I couldn't write anything intelligent beyond, "Yes, I'm tired of the divisiveness."

;)

Keep writing, please,as I look forward to each installment.

6. It will only take some of us changing our minds
and once enough of us take the track of cooperation, others will follow. All it takes is for some cells in the body to adapt and then the rest follow.

But it is critical that we adapt. Some humans fight change and do not want to move. It may be a case of move or die.

Yes. Those who do not wish to grow into a love-based energy, will find it increasingly impossible...fear is simply not compatible with the new energies/trend.

There is an amazing amount of Help available for any who find it difficult or impossible to let go of the past. Surrendering where you must is a very good thing (definitely a technique for myself!).
