Need healing for my Mom who was just diagnosed yesterday |
|
with severe dementia. I'm so sad. We've all noticed "something" for over a two year period, but nothing definitive from the doctors. Until yesterday. I don't think there's anything anyone can do, but to help ease the situation with my family, I am asking for help from you guys.
It's hereditary too, which is scary. I'm trying not to dwell on it too much for fear of manifesting it! But it's hard not to think about it. I've been doing some research online about the type that she has, and there is no cure, no treatment and worse yet, no prevention. I mean, how do you know if you're going to develop it? I'm only in my 40's, but I'm SO forgetful and I know my brain isn't what it used to be. In fact, I could say I actually DO have some of the symptoms NOW. Something else to worry about, yay! lol. I read blueberries are good for the brain, so that may be all I'm going to eat for the next 20 years and hope for the best! My Mom is only 68, still young, but yet so old now. Thank you all in advance for your energy, you're the best!

1. Sorry to hear this, Findrs; |

Its a slow progressing thing, I think many of us 'have it,' and live OK. Old age includes such. There IS medication which slows and/or modifies effects; check with docs.

We are currently dealing with something similar with my dad. He was diagnosed 2 years agio with pernicious anemia, and it had already damaged the meyelin in his cerebral cortex. My mom is giving him b-12 shots, but he is deteriorating slowly...the hardest part is that my mom is so old fashioned, that she doesn't want to take control of the situation for fear of making him angry...but he should NOT be driving and there are times I think she needs a nurse visit to relieve her of babysitting him. But he is so borderline with symptoms and minor physical stuff that is sporadic (loss of bowel control, etc), so the urgent need isn't there yet. I hope that in the meantime he doesn't wreck the car with her in it. :(
I like the idea of eating blueberries till the cows come home! Gingko biloba is supposed to help too...Meanwhile do the best to keep joyful and active in LIFE. I realized that my dad is only as bad as he is because he stopped engaging with people, stopped making use of his talents (and started watching FOX news) my mom has joined exercise and art classes, and can run circles around ME! (he's77 she's 73) so it is possible to have longevity, i think Joy is the key.

3. Bless you and your mother! |

I think there is a great deal of good research on the subject. What's good for the heart/arteries is also good for the brain. One thing that comes to mind is chelation therapy and enzyme therapy as well. I would refer to Dr. Mercola's site to see what he might say on the subject. Don't give up hope.

8. reiki on the way to your Mom and your family |
|
and an extra reiki  to you.
there is a working with fear between working with it and dwelling on it or avoiding it. I wish you the best in finding healthy ways to cope. you might find it useful to try, if you don't already, a b-complex or sublingual b-12. i know my brain is not so foggy when I take them tho if I take them within 8 hours of sleep i can't sleep. so take w/breakfast or lunch never dinner. if budget permits certain forms of b-s - the co-enzymated - are used to help nerve damage so if this is a component of the dementia your dear Mom has it might help at least a little...

9. Right after you receive a diagnosis is the hardest... |
|
You're in shock. Then, as people upthread have said, you learn more -- find there are treatments, discover perhaps the diagnosis isn't as devastating as originally thought -- and feel empowered by learning more.
Bless you all though. Having aging loved ones is such a challenge. And I also hear you when you express concern that her diagnosis may be your own; I think all of us over 40 secretly worry we have early-onset dementia.
I am indeed sending many hugs of healing and support to your dear mom and to you, findrskeep!!!
