everyone ready?
Did you all remember to catch "the Event" tonight? and what did you all think? I think....so far, I was right ,that it may be preparing us for the announcement of space family living among us already and being kept under wraps to protect us as well as themselves. There was an "intervention" that saved the President (Blair Underwood) in tonight's episode. The CIA is heavily involved and it's all very hush hush! This would be a very good way for the Govt. (Obama's govt.) to test the pulse of the habitants of Earth for reactions. Notice how all of a sudden Pres. Jimmy CArter, because of his new book, is very much in the forefront of the many news shows this past week. According to Matthew he has some part in this because he said it would devastate the Religeous community. He, I think most definately knows. What do you all think????

don't know if this is true or not so take it with a grain of salt, use discernment, etc.

18. OK...I just read your thread,
for the first time I might add, and it validated my glimpse into the psychic window that has been opening wider and wider for me lately!! It actually freaked me out! If I didn't know it, I'd suspect that I'd plagiarized this article. We'll see how this plays out, but for me, and my discernment, I'm excited about this revelation. Damn...so spot on!

3. The Event
was one show I was looking forward to watching - won't be able to see TV for a few days. Perhaps I can catch a rerun.

5. Tending the sick kidlet, so I didn't catch it
Missed the season premiere of Chuck too. Waaah! I loves me some Chuck. :( Anyway, good to know that The Event would be worth watching. (I got burned with FlashForward last season and I'm gun shy about any "big mythology" shows now.) I'll catch the rerun and then schedule it on my TiVo. Thanks, JA! :hi:

7. Alas, it got canceled
Sucks. x( I mean, it had its weak spots, the editing was atrocious, and the plot was all over the place, but it wasn't as bad as some of the dreck that hangs on season after season.

Plus I had a weird crush on the British scientist. He looked like a ferret, but he had a gorgeous voice.

12. Count me as another who loved
Flash Forward and I'm sorely disappointed that it was cancelled. The season finale really did open it open to the possibility of a much longer series. Sigh.

If you haven't read the original novel it was based on, you should do so. To say the least there are substantial differences, mainly in that in the novel the flash forward is to something like six or seven years in the future. But the changes made for a series were, for the most part I think, good ones. Oh, well.

Does anyone know if there's someplace online where I can watch The Event? No TV here, just a computer and DSL. It doesn't look as if the first episode has been posted on the NBC website. Maybe it will just take a few weeks.

13. The Event is on Hulu
There are commercials, but nowhere near as many as on TV. I'm thinking of indulging (even though I should be getting some work done) instead of waiting till Saturday's rerun. :hi:

:hi: I was like, forget about the routine for less than an hour! have to admit it was kind of bittersweet to see John Ritter's son, Jason. I liked John a lot. His passing really jarred me. I'm happy to see his child doing well. Good to see Blair Underwood too.

I'm not ready for my Big Time Interview this afternoon at 4:00. I SHOULD be going over my questions and reading a bit more of the guy's latest book. But now I want to watch The Event!

Yes, I am weak.

And I'm prepped for Ritter Jr.--he had a several-episode arc on Parenthood last season, as Lauren Graham's younger love interest. It is freaky to see him, though.

19. I liked it!

The disjointed storylines wigged me out a bit (was kind of like Flash Forward in that regard?); my brain needs linear, dammit. :eyes:

But I ended up getting into Flash Forward nonetheless, and was already hooked on The Event by the end of the first show.

And it reminded me of FlashForward as well--not so much the conceit, but the tone.

The only bad thing I can say, and this isn't just about The Event, but also Lost, FlashForward, and a bunch of other modern TV shows: Fer Chrissakes, if I have to see one more hijacked/crashed plane as a dramatic plot device, I am gonna... :nuke: Get some new material, whydoncha. That is all. Carry on. :)

Come on, Hollywood, it's been NINE YEARS since 9/11. I think we're pretty much over our fear of our plane being hijacked and flown into something/crashing. (Didja catch that comment from one of the passengers when they saw the fighter jet? "They're going to shoot us down!" Flight 93 much? :eyes: )

24. True dat....

That was pretty awesome. Surely they're gonna talk about all the planes disappearing in the Bermuda Triangle and such? ;)

It's a good cast of characters -- very reputable, not hokey at all.

I hope they open up a whole can of whoopass -- whoopass for truth and transparency! I don't care if it's about UFOs, or the Catholic Church's crimes, government/multinational business crimes...let's just start getting some of this into the OPEN, for cryin' out loud!

Then again, I was a huge "X-Files" fan and thought the whole "The Truth is Out There" thing would trigger more transparency and truth and crumbling of the corruption.

25. Okay, I watched it.
I'm less than thrilled with the constant back-and-forth in time, rather than a straightforward narrative without flashbacks to let us understand the plot. In an hour show (42 minutes and some of actual air time) maybe half was repeated.

*********Caution, possible plot spoiler **********

Cars can't race vehicles down a runway. The take-off roll for big jets like that. I quick google search tells me that typical take-off speed is around 170 mph. And a vehicle racing on to an active runway like that would be followed so quickly by assorted law-enforcement that it would make your head spin. As the plane is approaching where Martinez is, they show the approach (both from the ground and from the plane) a lot more slowly than it would actually be happening, without really doing a slo-mo. It's the typical Hollywood thing that has people being able to outrun the shockwave of an explosion. Recall the films of the second plane crashing into the WTC. It happens VERY FAST. But of course, we've all also seen those films in slo-mo, so we tend not to understand how very, very quickly something like that happens.

Also, Our Hero somehow magically grabs a gun which is stowed away on the plane? No explanation of how it got there, although it's possible that will be cleared up in a later episode.

The underlying premise of the series, that there may be aliens being held by our government, is a truly intriguing one, and I will watch further episodes to see how it plays out.

What does concern me a little is that there are too many people out there who will forget that this is really fiction and start to believe that it is essentially factual. Sort of the way people now seem to believe that the stuff in DaVinci Code is actual, factual, historical truth. Sigh.

30. I caught it
Going back and forth in time really is annoying, but I love the storyline.

An interesting side note, I posted something on FB about the Vatican wanting to be able to baptize aliens which I thought was pretty funny, but there was a video on the webpage that was really interesting about interpretation of the bible and the fanatics that read it literally. I thought I'd post it, hoping some of my fanatical friends might watch the clip and question themselves. Bonnie wrote something about them wanting a UN rep for aliens. I tried to respond to Bonnie, but whoever was monitoring FB wouldn't let me post anything more on it. What are they afraid of? My response wasn't anything more than, "Yes, I heard."

32. Interesting indeed
Matthew has been talking about this for a long time, but he said that political leaders are afraid of the peasants learning the truth (that aliens exist) because we might panic or whatever. :eyes: Yuh we iz so stoopid like dat.

So the slimy guy trying to tell the president that they have to keep it a secret really rings true.

33. Did you notice that if you surfed the channels,
they were showing Part one on a LOT of different stations? It's almost like they want to make sure that as many people see it(as a preparation) as possible. I had never before noticed how a popular mini series would show up on cable channels, at least not until the series was over.

For that reason, I'm not worried I won't catch Part 2, 3 and so forth, if they exist???
