My sister, my only sibling, got positive results from an MRI of her thyroid and now has to get a biopsy. I'm so sad and worried about her. Both my parents and my maternal grandmother died of cancer at an early age. Nearly all my family has passed actually. I'm trying to work, but my heart is breaking.
I wouldn't normally post something like this, but I know there are many people here who are very good at healing and visualization. My heartfelt gratitude for any prayers and healing thoughts for my sister Cynthia. I pray that the results of the biopsy are benign.

Sorry your sister is going through this, Matariki. It might help you to know that quite often people get growths (nodules) on their thyroids that are not cancerous. However, if it does turn out to be malignant, thyroid cancer is (perversely, IMO) called the "good cancer" because of its treatability and high survival rate.
Still, it's completely understandable that you and your sister would be freaking out--just the word "biopsy" brings out everyone's deepest, darkest fears, and it's so hard cramming them back into the box once it's opened.
Please keep us posted, okay?

I didn't know any of that - it's good, hopeful information.
She's on the other coast and I feel really helpless not being able to be there for her. She's such a typical Scorpio - won't tell her kids because she doesn't want to worry them. She didn't tell her partner until after the MRI. I feel so sad I can't be there to give her a hug and the support she needs.
Really, thank you.

There's a lot of information out there about thyroid problems and thyroid cancer. (A few celebrity thyroid cancer survivors, too, so it gets a fair amount of attention.) The "best" thing is no one HAS to keep their thyroid, so in a worst-case scenario, it'd just be removed. But I don't want to get ahead of all this--let's focus on "benign nodule" right now, right? :)
I know what you mean about being on the "other coast"--my only sibling lives across the country from me, and I do worry about him having medical problems and my not being able to help him. :( (I also hear you about the Scorpio thing--my 6 YO is a Scorpio, and already he simply doesn't TELL me things just so I don't worry. A 6 YO? Srsly? What's he gonna be like 10 or 15 years from now? YIKES!)

I was in the same scenario as your sister a few years ago. By the time I had the biopsy, I had myself convinced I had thyroid cancer (I'm also in a high risk group because I had xray treatments for whooping cough when I was 6 weeks old in the 50's). Anyway, after all the initial tests and going to a surgeon for the biopsy, there wasn't a darned thing wrong with me. I hope your sister gets similar results. Also, as MG says, if it is the diagnosis you dread, thyroid cancer is one of the most treatable. Sending white light and healing to your sister and hoping you get good news!

infinite love and gratitude.
MG is right, even the worst diagnosis--thyroid cancer--is a pretty straightforward treatment, and generally has a very good prognosis.
Funny--I'm a Scorpio sun sign and I tend not to want to worry people, too.

I used to think it twas impossible to know "what they were up to." I've found that it's actually kind of easy! I'm on that chapter as we speak.
They are worriers and are constantly concerned about relationships falling apart. And, they are extemely courageous.
in general
A long time ago, I used to hate them, real bad. I have learned that was just from the 1 or 2 bad seeds I had been involved with; Now I love em! A great sign!

I really, really appreciate what a wonderful group of people you all are. I felt a little bad about making my original post. But the information many of you gave me, really has helped me feel much more hopeful. I was really a mess last week when I posted that - and I was at work. It helped so much to be able to write about what I was feeling and receive the emotional support you all provided.
I honestly think the light, positive thoughts and Reiki helped both my sister and me to at least calm down and face this with a little more hope and grace. Thank you all.
My sister's step-daughter is a doctor and is helping her find a good Oncologist. I'll keep you posted on how things go.

My sister sent me this email today:
"My doctor gave me the results of my blood tests, and my TSH (thyroid) is working perfectly. She also told me there are several nodules, and they are just borderline in size, which is why she wants me to go to the specialist. She really thinks they are nothing, just something that will need to be watched. She also told me that in the very unlikely scenario that they would be cancerous, we caught it early enough not to be a problem. She congratulated me for officially being in menopause ~ blood test confirmed it."
I'm so relieved. Thank everyone who sent healing energy to my sister. I really believe it helped. You truly are an amazing bunch of good folk.

If you can find out, ask her what her TSH was. It should be between 0.1 and 1.0. The old "acceptable" range was 0.5 to 5.0, but that was too broad. Also, the doctor should be checking her Free T3 level (and in a perfect world Free T4 and Total T3 and Total T4....) TSH doesn't tell the whole story. If she's having any type of thyroid problem at all, with any symptoms of thyroid issues whatsoever, these tests should be done.
Okay, Debbie Downer's leaving the room now. ;) Glad your sister's all right! :hi:

I was irradiated for tonsil removal in 1941..........had to have my thyroid removed in 1982, after a biopsy showed the cells were changing. Fortunately the growths were beneign.............Beyond subtle changes in replacement hormones, & a terrible ignorance on the part of the AMA, regarding thyroid ( now getting up to speed.) I found I needed dessicated pig thyroid as the synthetic pill excludes T 1 & T 2, & my body doesn't do the conversion the scientists demand. They stopped making Armour Thyroid here in USA 2 years ago, I had to go to Canada for it & pay out of pocket, when Medicare should be paying.........But I just found out this week it is available here in some places.... Meantime when I returned to college in 1996, my roomate, a woman 10 years my Jr. ( I was 57) had had thyroid CANCER & had her thyroid removed too. She was taking technical courses.........( dental tech) and was fine & healthy as well............... There is a life after thyroid problems, I am now 71, perking along just fine! My roomate married again! ((((((((((baBY SISTER))))))))))) WILL BE FINE!
