October 2010 - Prayer, Light and Healing Requests thread
October 2010 Prayer, Light and Healing Requests Thread

"

Creator, let your will for me be known.
Use me, as your creation.
When a kind word needs to be spoken, use my voice.
When a load needs to be lifted, use my back.
When a hug needs to be given, use my arms.
When a journey needs to be taken, use my feet.
When a message needs to be delivered, use my mind.
When a friend needs to be loved, use my heart.
In all things, in all ways, use me as your instrument of love, faith, peace and tranquility.

Anne Lamott wrote this in her book "Traveling Mercies" and I thought it was appropriate for this thread:
Broken things have been on my mind as the year lurches to an end, because so much broke and broke down this year in my life, and in the lives of the people I love. Lives broke, hearts broke, health broke, minds broke. On the first Sunday of Advent our preacher, Veronica, said that this is life's nature, that lives and hearts get broken, those of people we love, those of people we'll never meet. She said the world sometimes feels like the waiting room of the emergency ward, and that we, who are more or less OK for now, need to take the tenderest possible care of the more wounded people in the waiting room, until the healer comes. You sit with people, she said, you bring them juice and graham crackers.

As we head into the month of October, chock full of pumpkins, goblins and falling leaves, let us open our heart to those who need what we may have to offer - a hand, a hug, a heart, a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks. (Is that last one just me?)

As my Guides told me, I will tell you: "You have everything within you to do what is needed." You just have to believe that.

Take care of yourself, blessed ASAH friends, and take care of someone else, too.

:grouphug:

=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*

It is I who asks for your blessing, Father-Mother, no longer in whimpered tones.
I have grown throughout the seasons and stand now, tall and sure.
I am sensing who I truly am, and I stand to meet that test.
I am your word within this life - this lifetime.
Know I this.

but if it is possible, please ease my back pain. My son and I moved heavy, awkward furniture. I've been in pain for a week.

Thank you.

4. You are always so humble, muriel....

Your kindness and big heart touch me deeply.

Back pain can be so debilitating. :( I do hope it eases for you very soon! Is it out -- have you experienced it being out of alignment before? Or did you a pull a muscle, do you think?

I hope someone miraculously comes onto your path who can help, be it a massage therapist, chiropractor, etc.

Whether muscular or mechanical, if you're able to maneuver well enough, maybe soaking in an Epsom salt bath would be soothing and helpful?

Sending hugs of healing your way.....

6. muriel, your needs are important too.
There are always people with greater needs than what we each have, but the Universe can multi-task, as I'm sure you know.

I am asking that your back pain permanently subside quickly and easily. (This or something better for the highest good of all involved.)

Please consider seeing a doctor if you haven't already. If it's muscular, he/she might be able to give you a muscle relaxant, if you're open to taking that type of medication.

As a non-swimming sister, my feeble attempts this summer have really helped to ease my back pain a lot. Also doing some gentle belly dance movements while sitting helps too.

10. You are welcome ....
.... the Anne Lamott quote was sent to me by my Guides because I haven't thought of that (or re-read that book) in years and years. I was out walking around and they said "crackers and juice, remember?" and I said "Got it" and promptly found the quote online. :-)

Everyone who does these lovely threads before me left me a beautiful example to follow and I am thankful for that.

Hugs and prayers are sent your way Muriel. And much love to the rest of youse here. :)

20. I think it's energetic/stress
Been really 'overwhelmed' by things this week/weekend, even my youngest was on edge saturday.
Last night I added some 'herbal medicine' to my repetoire and slept great and had way better clarity or purpose this morning. been running energy and praying alot too...

I got that we need melatonin...for calming and to counteract light pollution.
It would be better than me using alcohol to get to sleep, that's for sure!

so when i get pad tomorrow i am going to the health food store asap!

She's bleeding internally and will have a colonoscopy tomorrow. She's had lupus for years. Whether or not this is related to the bleeding, we don't know.

The prayer in the OP reminds me a little of the Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi: http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/pray0027.htm

19. gods, goddesses, universe...please grant me the focus, energy
and friggin' rote memory I need to pass Clinical Microbiology.

Last week I aced the Serology test (which I'd been told was the toughest course).

This morning I failed...and I mean badly failed...the 2nd Microbiology test. Turns out I overprepared for Serology and grossly underprepared for Micro.

Basically, the students who had one general micro instructor have a head start in this class -- they've already been through memorizing a bunch of stuff so they already know the genus and species names and tests, just not what this particular instructor is focussing on. I had the other general mico instructor -- so I know how the cells work and conceptual and molecular biology stuff...none of which is relevant to this class.

And frankly, I suck at rote memory. I much better when things are in a conceptual context and when patterns emerge. So far this is just random bits and pieces of trivia with long, irrelevent names. :(

In a way, I wish they'd let me take -- and fail -- micro last year. I would have dropped out with half the debt I'm incurring, and with a job to carry me through.

30. Just a quick request for prayers for healing and guidance
for my daughter's best friend, Vo. She is bi-polar and is going through a really rough spot in her life. Her dad passed away 2 years ago tomorrow, and life is hitting her hard right now. She's approaching 30 and questioning who she is, why she is, what there is to live for... and coming up empty.

She is suicidal.

Last night presented is with a crisis involving her that required our intervention. She is here with us this evening for a while. She and my daughter are sitting outside talking right now. Please send her some strength to make it through this period of her life and help us to find the right words to say or to know when to just be silent when that's what's needed. Above all, I hope she can find a reason within herself to live.

Thanks. You guys are awesome. I know I don't post much, but I read here every day and send my love and energy to those in need, even though I may not post to say so.

Sorry it has taken me so long to post an update. It's been an up and down process, but I think we can safely say she is feeling more whole and healthy now. She has re-connected with her mother, which she desperately needed to do, and has ended a relationship that wasn't working. Things seem to be on the mend. Thanks so much for the love and light and healing energies.

Blessings in return...

I hope to be accepted to grad school (Master's degree) in Applied Linguistics and ESL. I want to teach English as a Second Language at the college level.

Friends of hers have a daughter who is being treated for cancer and facing down the possibility of radical surgery to stop its growth. They are really, really hoping to avoid these procedures and of course, to avoid losing their daughter.

The child's name is Eleanor, and she is currently in Delaware.

Any insights or advice anyone picks up would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

35. Asking for healing for the nerve problem in my right hand.
I've been seeing a chiropractor 3 days a week. I get snap crackle and popped and then get a TENS unit used on my upper back. Just about all the time my thumb is asleep.

Not a whole lot of improvement, but some. The DC said my neck vertebrae/discs are worn down merely from age (I'm 55).

Dear Hubby suggested I go to Houston to see a neurologist if things don't get better. I can still type and move my hand. Since I am right handed I have to tell myself to not pick up heavy things with my right hand or it will get a sharp burning sensation in my thumb.

Still baffled about thyroid/adrenal/whatever balance to have more energy.

54. Thanks.
So far I have seen the chiropractor on Mon, Wed and Friday for two weeks to get snap crackled and popped and also they put an ultrasound unit on my upper back to relax the shoulder muscles.

I think I will need to go to Houston and see a neurologist. My thumb is a little better but not much.

I have to keep telling myself to not pick things up with my right hand because I am right handed.
If I move my arm up and back or pick up something heavy, I get a bad burning sensation in my thumb.

37. I would like to request prayers and healing for my
youngest daughter. She fell while doing aikido training at her dojo. She broke her collar bone and will need surgery. She will have to have a plate and screws - permanently. She is in pain, but she is distressed that she will not be able to train again for a long time. An important teacher from Japan is coming in two weeks, and she will not be able to train with him.

I know she needs to concentrate on healing first, before training. Her art should be teaching her this type of patience. Her dojo is her family away from home. She will miss them.

68. that's so sweet IHAD, but in this program anything below 77
is fail. As in, if you finish this or any other class with a 76 average you are dropped from the program. I was afraid I'd only gotten a 20 or 30 (I could only remember 10-15 questions I was pretty sure I got right) -- and was in too deep a hole to dig out of. But with 70...I still have a B- in the course. Not my preferred position, but no hole to dig out of either.

It was a perfect storm and not my fault at all. I've been running a marathon for 13 months. I should have passed the finish line at 12 months and been able to quit the job by Sept 1, but the financial aid office forgot to send me forms, lost forms, failed, failed, failed. I didn't want to quit my job until I had secure funding. Plus I had the serology test the week before -- that class I have been taking on video by special permission, so had extra pressure to do well. And I'd been told by a student last year that serology was the toughest class this semester. I focussed heavily on the serology and got 104 out of 105. I then gave myself a day off and spent the next 4 jamming in the micro. But I ran out of gas, ran out of time, crashed and burned.

And yes, in the rest of the world, a 70 is a C or C-, and not a fail. Just this program is very tough. As they said to us in the beginning, if you were in the hospital wouldn't you want to know that the people taking care of you learned at least 3/4s of the material they studied?

I remember that from my days in college. By the very end, I had pushed myself so hard that I just had no more to give. Physically (and mentally as well, I'm sure), I couldn't have done another semester.

Just try to be gentle with yourself, northernlights.

New prognosis is that her condition is improving a lot and radical surgery won't be necessary to treat her cancer.

73. Please send positive energies to "B," a young man whom I've
recently started tutoring. He somehow reached the 9th grade in school without having learned how to read, although he was involved with drugs for many years and that might have had an effect on his ability to remember what he learned in earlier years. He is 30 yrs. old with 3 children. This is such an uphill climb for him and I am praying that he will stick with it. He has been mandated by the courts to enroll in an educational program and get his GED. Otherwise, I think he will have to serve time.

I was in a similar situation with a man that I tutored, although he wasn't involved in drugs. Not being able to read was holding him back in his dream job of being a chef.

The most important thing that I had to get through to him was that just because he couldn't read didn't mean that he wasn't intelligent; he was an intelligent man. He just somehow got behind at some point, and it snowballed from there. His pride kept him from ever reaching out before he got this wonderful job. The potential for his dream to come true made him take action in spite of the embarrassment he felt.

Thank you for helping this man and his family, japple. You're doing really important work.

75. I'm posting from the emergency room
Two things: first, there's the leg ulcer that may be infected.

Second, and maybe more importantly, is that I seem to be entangled in a never ending mess of absurdities and frustrations with the medical system today. There's the madness that requires I use an emergency room instead of the Dr's office because Medicaid won't allow one to schedule a wheelchair van a second later than 5 pm the previous day, unless it is to the ER (so I had to come here rather than go to my Dr's office (it could wait overnight, but not two days). Then I used my last migraine pill today, and my migraine medicine is entangled in prior approval red tape as the state attempts to "save money" by deliberately dragging their feet on prior approvals (which pretty much guarantees I'm going to end up back here a few times a month as, uncontrolled, I end up with 3+ day long status migrainous). Then the VNA is refusing to use appropriate dressings on the ulcer (again, no doubt, "saving money")... ... the damned state is going to go bankrupt "saving money" by jdriving me into the most expensive possible treatment settings while they actually give me the high blood erroneously listed in my med records here. Aaaaaargh!!!!! Either that or I'll next be posting from the psych ward.

I hate hate hate having to deal with crap, and I fantasize about walking away from it all, except for the "tiny" problem that I haven't been able to walk for years and at minimum need to deal with the system for a wheelchair and the pain meds I need just to get out of bed and into that wheelchair.

I am at my wits end today.

OK I'll stop complaining now. I've been pissing and moaning about things like what you have already gone through. I can still walk...with a walker, and fighting to keep it from getting to the point you find yourself in. I really think they just want all of us to give up and go into a nursing facility so they can get all that we may have left, or just go ahead and die! You are in my thoughts and prayers. Here's to all of us out there that are bucking the system.

86. A small unsolicited suggestion (feel free to ignore)
It may not be worth your while to struggle to walk.

Mobility is very important. How you get it, not so much. When I was struggling to walk, all my energy was tied up in getting from point A to point B, and none of it was left over to do much of anything when I got there. When I got over the notion that I was somehow obligated to do it on two feet, and got a wheelchair, suddenly I could get from point A to point B without atrocious levels of pain and with the energy to do something once I got there.

I could not only get to where I needed to go, but where I wanted to go again. I remember the first time after I got my chair that I went to the kitchen during a TV commercial for a snack. It was something trivial, that I had taken for granted all my life, that I hadn't even realized I had lost during the years when I was moving about so painfully I had given up on unnecessary movement. It was wonderful to be able to do something so small and silly again.

"Confined" in a wheelchair is nonsense--- wheelchairs are liberating.

OTOH, it's always worthwhile to struggle with the idiocy of America's financial health care bubble to actually squeeze some health care out of it.

78. I have a friend in need of some healing thoughts
Edited on Wed Oct-20-10 10:17 PM by woodsprite
My friend and singing partner, Joy, will be having some extensive kidney surgery the first week of November. She has a tumor which the doctor believes is malignant. The biopsy won't be done until the actual surgery due to location. The type of surgery she needs is going to require removing a rib or two inorder to get where they need to be. Please lift her up in your thoughts and prayers. She is a young mom with a wonderful husband and 2 lovely little blonde-haired girls who just know that Mommy needs to go to the hospital for awhile to fix a boo-boo.

This is the first place I think of to come when I seek spiritual calm, and I wanted to add her to the Healing Requests list. She has a very calming sweet personality, and is very spiritual, but I hear panic in her voice as she talks about the coming procedure and her family as the date gets closer.

Thanks for everything you all do.

so i am dealing with these feelings today of inadequacy, wondering where *I* was the bad example...was it because i was a young mother, was it because the second marriage failed and he had no male role model? i dunno, but it is getting to the point where i want the issue out of my house...
I have real problems with the "slacker male' persona...it reeks of ALL men i ever relied upon, and i hate that he is turning out to be that way...

how do i deal with this  i guess i grow some cojones...

94. There are some times when choosing based on fear is valid.
Fear is an instinct you have at your disposal to warn you of real danger. If you are in a dangerous situation or with a person who poses a danger to you or yours, it is valid to recognize you are in danger and make the decision to get away from the danger your fear warned you about.

Loving those who don't love you isn't just inappropriate and non-self respecting, it can endanger your physical safety. There are some people and some situations who are beyond our capacity to love or heal, and even if they weren't, aren't safe for us to be around.

I hope you understand what I'm trying to say--choose safety first, and love only what is loveable.

96. I'd also like to ask for prayers/light/vibes for my SO.
(yes,he is receptive to it; btw)

He's made some initial contact with a person that ..well, made his life hell and scarred him very badly. This is really the root of most of his 'issues'. As much pain as he's in; I think this is his way of starting to try and work through it and heal it in his life, and I'm proud of him for trying to stand up and do this. It's painful for me to see him go through it, and I can see that it's going to be hard.
On top of that, he has his court date for his (pretty darn serious) offenses next Tuesday. This is stressing him out big-time.

Any light or anything you feel is appropriate to send would be welcomed. He's chosen to learn some very hard lessons this life.

Thank you, as always, friends.

My husband (if the references check out the way the company wants them to, and he has amazing references, according to the employment agency who sent him on the interview,) is about to get a job offer.
