Ugh. I had really bad vertigo last night.
It's gone now, but I have no idea what happened there--everything else was fine (no other physical problems that I know of.) Anyone else?

1. I haven't had feelings like that in a long time.
I wouldn't call those 'vertigo' either, just a feeling that the solid ground on which I was standing had less gravity than normal ;)

Pay attention to your health on that, however. If it's real and physical vertigo, get it checked out. The last place where I worked, our secretary passed out from vertigo and had to take an ambulance trip to the hospital. I believe they discovered it was blood-pressure related. I don't know enough about this to say what the cause can be, so just stay on top of it and be careful :)

2. Sorry to hear that, BlueIris
Vertigo is not fun. I've had benign positional vertigo for over 25 years. It flares up when the barometric pressure is high and it's windy. I take ginger tea and that helps somewhat.

Definitely get it checked out in order to rule out various medical conditions. If it's BPV, there is something called the Epley Maneuver that can be done to rearrange the little crystals in your inner ear. I have instructions but I've yet to try it because I don't want to risk getting dizzy temporarily.

Good luck!

3. I'm sorry you were upset and uncomfortable
Glad it's better now.

Something radical is going on. I've been getting spells of this for days now. It's very disorienting. Let it move on through and sit down if you need to so you don't fall down..

4. Wow! I hate those. I get them too.
I haven't had one in awhile and I believe it's due to exercise. Do you exercise at all? Maybe you should try it out. I found out that by building up muscle strength, I'm having less and less issues with balance and with the vertigo. Whatever it is that causes your spells I hope you have medical help for them and I'm sending you some positive thoughts.

5. I used to get it every so often...
Edited on Sat Oct-02-10 07:16 PM by JanusAscending
maybe once a year or so. So bad that when I turned over in bed or moved my head in any direction the bed would start spinning like a "bad drunk" experience. Went to the ENT and he diagnosed it as "Labyrnthitis" Fluid build up in the inner ear throws everything off balance. I was prescribed Meclazine, and I always have them on hand. They are very potent pills, and require bed rest, and slow movements. My eldest daughter suffers with it frequently. It only takes a few doses to resolve the problem. Talk to your Dr. about this! I haven't had it in a long while thank God! Get checked for Meuniers disease too!! I'm not one prone to motion sickness (car air or sea)so this feels really unatural to me when it hits!! I think perhaps chronic sinusitis from my many years of smoking added to the problem as well! P.S. I forgot totell you FEEL BETTER ! Sending prayers in your direction!

7. Aspartame?
My husband had serious vertigo spells over a span of years. He then developed increasingly worse migraines, strange neuropathy-type sensations, and eventually tremors. Medical tests showed no reason for all of this, but when I convinced him to give up his diet coke (containing aspartame or what I call "Rummy juice" for Rumsfeld), ALL those symptoms disappeared. Come to find out, aspartame also interferes with diabetes medications, which also explained why he had been experiencing wide swings to high and low blood sugar. Aspartame (Nutrasweet, Equal - all of 'em) also can cause weight gain, and he has lost some weight since giving up that crap.

Just a thought, but when I hear vertigo, aspartame is the first cause I think of now. Artificial sweeteners really are poison!

9. I cut out all commercial soda drinks and most artificial sweeteners
in '03. I agree, that shit is toxic.

My docs said it "sounds like" vertigo. I'm supposed to keep 'em in the loop. Hasn't happened again. Man, it was weird.
