:hi: Everyone
I was just very kindly granted permission to post DUer Wishlist posts here at DU without having to get special permission each time.
Because it could indeed get overwhelming and that permission revoked, here's what I'm thinking.
Rather than individual threads here at DU for each need, I'll create a weekly Wishadoo thread in GD. Within that OP I'll highlight the details of the current needs/requests and link to the Wishlist post containing the rest of the necessary information for the request, including a link to any fundraising page.
This should keep it from being too overwhelming for DU but enable people to look forward to checking out (hopefully) on a regular basis. They can start looking for the "Weekly Wishadoo Thread."
I'm also thinking of creating a category in the Wishlist specifically called DU. Anyone from DU can post what they need in that DU category -- as well as crosspost to the appropriate Wishlist category. This way, DUers -- if they want to zoom in on only DU-related posts -- can go to that one specific category.
What do you guys think of that plan?

5. Great News, however, my thoughts on this plan are this ........ |
|
If you include a weekly list with several peoples wishes then I would be afraid that people would choose who to help based on whether or not people like this person, and it would become overwhelming.
Or in my case I don't think people would donate because I don't have a big presence on DU, therefore I would probably not gain much support.
But of course you do whatever you think is best and I will cross my fingers that people will contribute to my fund drive.
:hi:
I will be posting an update on my current situation soon.

6. I'm open to the best way to do this for all concerned... |

Maybe the weekly DU thread would spotlight a DUer wishlist post?
My concern is that people get donation fatigue very fast (of course, my hope is that needs beyond financial are posted as well soon), and I don't want to wear out Wishadoo's welcome at DU. Fundraisers are granted sporadically, as you know, so if this blanket pass for Wishadoo is a reliable way to share others' needs, through a weekly Wishadoo OP that can be bumped throughout the week, I'd like to make sure to keep that door open.
I'm not sure if how it's presented will affect how people respond if it's for a DUer with whom they're not overly familiar. I don't know if a thread devoted to a person would make that much of a difference if someone isn't familiar with them and thus hesitant to help?
I wouldn't list a bunch of Wishlist posts in the weekly OP. I would spotlight one or two DUers' posts and then it would be more of a general weekly invitation -- linking to a devoted DU Wishlist category -- to let people know where they can go to specifically help other DUers. Like I said, maybe spotlighting one or two, based on the type of need/post, how time sensitive it is, etc.
I don't know...that's why I'm asking for others' thoughts. Thanks for chiming in. ;)
I want to get a protocol down as to how this will be handled. I feel it's a good opportunity to provide help to the community, and I don't want it to be clumsy as it has been thus far.
People using the Wishadoo banner and link to their Wishlist post embedded in the sig line has helped another DUer, I know for a fact, even without a devoted fundraising thread (wasn't granted permission).
Let's talk it out some more and see. :)

9. and post the updates in your journal? |
|
so people could follow you there if they don't come to DU every day...
Great that Skinner would agree to this.

10. That could be a good idea... |
|
asdjrocky is wanting to blog for Wishadoo (I'm trying to get that platform set up this weekend), and he could simultaneously do so via a journal here, and provide updates.
Great idea! Thanks.

11. I think its a great idea |

if you can't have a Wishadoo forum as GD cycles so quickly that the Weekly Wishadoo might get buried fast.
With each Wishadoo, I hope that there is link to your website.
You rock!

12. I wonder if having a daily Wishadoo thread would be too much? |
|
Others post daily things...calls to action and such...maybe I can have a daily Wishadoo thread rather than weekly.
You're right about how difficult it is to keep a thread kicked, especially over a one-week period.
I do want to get organized really soon about a daily blog, daily call to action (or call to BE~ing) for Wishadoo.
Hmmmm....well, we'll see how it goes. I'll stay open and flexible but always mindful of not appearing to be "spamming" DU.
Whenever I see anyone post about someone (or an animal or project) in need here at DU, I want to jump in and invite them to post it at Wishadoo. Maybe a daily Wishadoo thread is where such things can come together, so others can see what all is going on and how they can be of service to one another. The DU threads will rise and fall, but the Wishlist posts can remain for a long time.
This is another example of the fragmentation that bothers me (see Missy Vixen's foreclosure thread); my intention is that one way Wishadoo can help is to be an umbrella site where people can gather to post needs and offerings, I feel it would be so much easier for everyone: those wanting to help and those who need help.
Getting people to connect and gather -- on a regular basis -- with a common intent is the challenge right now. It doesn't help that my own efforts to DO are fragmented because life continues to happen, and I'm fragmented myself. ;)
Thanks, eilen. :hi:
