Samhain blessings to everyone

I hope you all enjoy a happy and safe new year holiday tonight, and receive blessings from your ancestors.

Our group enjoyed a wonderful potluck Dumb Supper yesterday evening at the local UU church. Joining us was a Norse-oriented (but very mellow and definitely NOT white-power types) group who passed around a drinking horn filled with mead to toast the ancestors. After a silent meal and food offerings, we wrote messages on paper and burned them in a cauldron to carry them to our beloved dead. The ritual space was beautifully decorated for the UU congregation's annual Day of the Dead service this morning, with balloons, colorful ribbons, skulls, confetti and a large decorated, coffin-shaped altar like ones used in Mexican Dia de los Muertos festivities.

3. Happy Samhain to all

I hope you all have a great start to your new year. I made a new friend today, doing conservation work toward the clamming license. I was invited to go along with a grandmother who's been clamming for 20 years, plus her 2 grandsons. She gave me a "hopper" and much advice. It was raw, cold, sometimes rainy...and we had a good time cleaning up the shoreline.

LE, your supper sounds wonderful. I wish the local UU church would do something like that, but not likely in these parts...

6. The supper wasn't a UU-sponsored event

It was organized by a pagan group that includes members of the congregation as well as non-members. We meet in one of the church buildings about once a month.

Maybe there are a couple of pagan oriented folks among the UUs who might like to form a group?
