Anybody hear have any stories or experiences with it, or any tips?

I don't know anything about it, and have never experienced it, except in dreams.
I have had a few dreams where I believe I "travelled." They involved actual travel, in car or on foot, to find a real person that I know/knew in this world, for real conversations. The quality of the journey and the conversation was such that I woke convinced that I had actually sought out the other person to communicate with them.
Whether that happened "out of body" while I slept, or whether you don't need to move out of body to communicate mentally, I don't know. I just know it happened.

5. There's a difference between a spontaneous out of body experience |
|
and astral projecting.
Personally, I kind of frown on the astral projection thing. It's similar to voyeurism - like peeking at somebody without their knowing, unless they've asked you to come and do a healing or something like that, or check on their sick mother type of thing, you know what I mean?
Besides that, when you are doing ASTRAL projection, you're doing just that...you are traveling in the ASTRAL environment and there are things there that have never walked the earth as well as drug addicts and alcoholic spirits hanging around who want to attach themselves to some earthly being so they can get at the "stuff" again.
Unless you have studied or been taught and know how to protect yourself during these jaunts, it just aint a good idea - IMHO.
In case you think I'm kidding about what I have written above.. please know that I am not.

The book I'm reading has said that it is completely safe. Safety was one of my main concerns about it when I started reading about it. I don't wanter endanger myself, or anything like that.
Are there any specific stories anyone has of astral projections gone bad?

7. SEG, always go with your first gut feeling - and |
|
safety was your main concern to begin with. That should tell you something.
It is not completely safe at all. Things can attach to you - come through you to here.
Find a class, usually at an astrology book store..about psychic protection.
those dt's that alcoholics have where they see pink elephants and giant cockroaches or weird things are not for nothin.

8. I projected consciously a few times |
|
Both were spontaneous but one was after I had been trying to deliberately project. I had fallen asleep on the couch after rereading a detailed description of a standard projection in Muldoon & Carrington's The Projection of the Astral Body. I awoke crouching on the other side of the living room and turned to see my own body lying on the couch. That scared me. I blacked out and woke up again, back on the couch.

9. I too fell asleep on the couch once and had a projection experience-- |
|
I had read McClain's book. It said something about being tethered to one's body during the projection--and that if the tether broke it was the equivalent of the near dead going into the light.
I'm not sure if I was dreaming or if it was just the power of suggestion, but I remember something like a shadowy black figure with a tether floating through my apartment to the back door.
Somehow, "I" also went downstairs to my neighbor's apartment which I'd never been in. I remember coming back to my body with a heavy jolt.
Later, I actually went to my neighbor's apartment and, eerily, it was just like I had seen in the projection.
It's embarassing talking about this stuff, people think you are crazy so I've never told anybody about it. But I didn't like the experience and I never want to do it again.

I read the part in my book about the dangers, and I feel a lot better about it now.
I personaly have kept it pretty quiet that I want to attempt it. I've only told my girlfriend about it, and shes' not too thrilled about it. After I'm done with the book I'll make my decision though.
