I can't remember when I last felt this depressed
about the state of things in our government. Alito. The saber-rattling over Iran. The mess in Iraq. The mess in New Orleans. Global warming.

Can anyone here offer any glimmerings of hope?

2. I totally hear what you are saying. I, too, am depressed....because
the young people don't give a shit. What's with this younger generation.??? My husband and I have 6 children between us, 15 grandchildren....you know....all they worry about is NOW.

I, ME, MYSELF, and I. I love them all dearly, but I don't understand their thinking. Wondering if my parents were this distraught about the younger generation.....

It's very sad. Maybe that's the way it's suppose to be, I don't know. I've given up even trying.

Bush is getting away with so much shit, it's so scarey.

I don't want to leave our grandchildren behind in this kind of world....but I have no choice.

5. I know what you mean
Our youngest son (age 39) voted B*, was sure he'd keep us "safer", the oldest (age 47) didn't vote. Our youngest daughter (age 43)voted Dem THIS TIME - the caps are because she voted Nader in 2000, oldest daughter (age 45) lives in the U.K. (married a Brit and is raising her sons there) and didn't vote.

I have one ray of hope, however. Our granddaughters, ages 16 and 17, are passionate Democrats, the older one even went to the Inauguration protest at the GA state capitol and was so proud of leaving her uptight Republican private school to do it. Their parents are divorced and have split custody, half the time with one, half with the other. They have chosen the Democratic politics of their struggling, hard-working mother instead of the Republican politics of their millionaire father. They are as anti-B* as anyone here.

9. I'm 26. I give a damn, I swear.
Or at least I'm trying. REALLY hard. Too hard, some might say.

But I'm here and I care about the future. I got an education, I've got a sense of real history, (even if that could be better) I volunteer. I get frustrated about younger people not caring and not having the first clue that they're going to HAVE to start caring. I think it will get better, eventually.

3. I know how you feel
 I do feel hopeful though. I don't know why, but I do feel so hopeful and excited. Not just my personal life but with the country too. It'll get better, don't worry. Just keep sending the country positive light.

6. It may be the mixture of uncertainty we feel in the air...
I have a feeling that there is so much of conflicting energy in general and also inside of me. Could it be that the positive energy of genuine concern for others and the environment for example, is expanding at such a rate that it may be overwhelming to us? We all struggle with our own personal and immediate problems, which could be overwhelming by itself but this exponential positive outpouring of energy must be a good thing. Oddly, this is occuring due to the bad government we have. So many of us, who never thought that we could do anything about it are rising up, voicing their concerns.

When I get depressed, I walk around in the yard, look at every plant, flower and tree, soon I feel "grounded" again....and I make a promise, one day, one step at at a time, we'll make it better for all.

Heads up

7. re Alito
I think that when the voting fraud is uncovered and this nation faces the fact that two elections were stolen (FL and OH being the key states in the theft), there will be enormous pressure for any bush-named justice to resign.

8. Justices can be impeached
I remember hearing there was an effort at one time to "Impeach Earl Warren" when he was on the Supreme Court.

If we can fight past the voting machine chicanery and take back Congress, then impeaching a Supreme Court justice -- to say nothing of a president, becomes within our reach.

Thank you, NJ Cher and everyone else who has posted on this thread.
I'm still bummed out, but I'm going to church (Unitarian) this morning and maybe that will help some.

10. I see it as a pendulum.
It swings back and forth, and right now we are at the conservative arc. It will swing back to the left--as sure as we are sitting here. Politically we will survive.

What I am more depressed about is a personal situation where I see a man (my former boss) who is totally incompetent along with being malicious. He leaves a trail of pissed off and hurt people in his wake. To date, I have yet to see him get any kind of external payback for that--and it is most disturbing.

You have to understand, this man and his abuse has taught me that I am very capable of long term anger--even hate. I've honestly never felt that before now. It is a lesson in what I am capable of, but it is a lesson I'd rather not have been presented with.

I suffered long term abuse by his hand in the workplace, and I have seen him abuse and harass others as well. My escape came by taking a pay cut and threatening a harassment lawsuit to make that move. It got ugly and I spent a year on tranquilizers and anti-depressants.

I've told my story to anyone in power that will listen, and I have offered to help anyone that wants to stand up to him. I have him documented and on record as an abuser, and thus far, it has not been enough to bring him down.

He's now working on a new set of victims ad it is gut-wrenching to watch. I keep wondering if I did the right thing by not filing a lawsuit. I keep wondering if his departure would have happened by now had I taken the legal path.

I know his day will come. I still cling to that, but somehow it just hasn't come fast enough to save others from the crap I endured. THAT has rattled me a great deal. I keep wondering--how much longer can this go on?

Mine is not to sit in judgment. I know that. I also wonder if maybe I am wrong not to act more forcefully. Chalk it up to a Grand Square, chalk it up to a life lesson. Call it what you wish, but he's hurting people and I do hate to see it continue.

We all have our burdens in life, and they vary. This one is mine for now.

Peace to you all.

Laura
