Asking for resource to learn about "The Power of 8" |
|
There have been a couple of references to "the power of 8" on this forum and I don't get it.
I asked a friend who talks about it and instead of an explanation I got a novel to read for 'homework'. Ptht. It's an okay novel but not a resource to learn this mythology. I would appreciate being pointed towards better information from anyone who cares to post a reference, please.
Thanks very much! Crikkett

I searched old DU threads and found fun stories (brings you money, karma etc) but not a reason why 8 is a big deal...
Will continue searching.

5. In Chinese, "8" is pronounced similarly to the word for "wealth" |
|
That according to a Chinese co-worker to whom I had mentioned the practice of writing the numeral on a piece of paper and stuffing it one's a wallet. She said that during the Chinese New Year celebration, which is the 29th this year, "8" is a popular number because it is said to bring wealth for that reason, and "4" is avoided because it's pronunciation in Chinese is similar to the word for "death." There may also be a connection to the endless knot of Buddhism or perhaps the infinite loop holds luck in constant, endless movement near your money. Just guesses on my part. :-)
