I guess we aren't getting a miracle re: Alito...

I heard on the news tonight the repubs have enough support for alito to pass him through. There doesn't seem to be any support for a filibuster, and if there is probably not enough.

Sorry to sound dramatic here, but my heart is breaking. Can't stop crying right now...

1. Take heart, Bliss. It ain't over till it's over - I won't give power to ..
them by considering the alternative. He can still be stopped - I have to believe that until proven wrong!

4. they don't know what's going on
They report the easy story--the ones the repubs supply them, talking points and all.

I teach a class in social advocacy and I made a remark in class about how the U.S. media is useless and that I only watch the BBC for news and certain Internet sources. After class, a student who is in public information came up to me and told me how she knew of several stories being put out by public information colleagues that were made up--no basis whatsoever in fact. The reporters took the stories at face value and printed them. Both were pure fabrications.

The press here is nonexistant. Don't listen to them or take anything they have to say seriously.

Cher

6. Thanks, NJCher--
That's horrible what your student shared, but for some reason it doesn't completely surprise me. It's a shame more don't know this truth.

10. You're right, dj--
thank you for reminding me. It was a tough night and day--I shouldn't have allowed myself to be swallowed by negativity that way.

11. This is the right forum to come to when you're feeling beat down, Bliss.
I keep my chin up, my chest out & my 'dukes' up in GD & GD/P - but when the bad news or negativity get overwhelming, this is the place I come to for replenishment! You instinctively knew that ... you came here. I'm so pleased to see that the group has helped you feel better, we all get worn down & this group is just the best at coming together!

All the negativity in the other forums (& the news outlets) can be draining, whether the people saying 'give up' & 'why bother' in them truly feel that way or have an agenda - either is just as hard to constantly push against!

Every time I start feeling beat down, I remember that I have a stake in this - my kiddoes! That, & this forum, always helps to get me back in the ring!

2. I wouldn't trust what they say on the news...
I'm not throwing the towel in yet!

I had actually been feeling more optimistic about a filibuster... Randi Rhodes (on Monday) said we had 40 Senators voting No, and we just needed one more.

I think things are happening that we can't fully see, and the "news" is not in on it...

I am hopeful that our calls, emails & faxes are having an impact!

9. You're right liberalla--
they're in the dark for the most part.

One of their leading stories last night was about how the student asked * if he saw Brokeback Mountain. I couldn't believe such an insignificant story was one of the leads--like it mattered to the world in some significant way.

Anyway, thanks for your positive thoughts. I really needed that! :hi:

no problem, bliss eternal! I'll join you in crying if it comes to that, but let's keep working on the miracle for now!

Many good comments... We won't know there is a filibuster until it starts!
Wish I had C-Span!

7. Thank you, crikket!
This is encouraging--I appreciate your providing the link!

:)

It was a rough night, between personal issues and hearing the doom and gloom reports of the local news. I think I'm going to opt out of the news altogether tonight. I'll get the weather report on-line (usually the only reason I tune in to msm for news).

18. I usually don't to be honest...
I usually ignore the msm news like the plague, and I only watch it for local stories and weather reports. All the other stuff, I ignore and come here or dig around on the net to find out the truth on.

I freaked out momentarily. Though admittedly, they've been convincing in making it sound like a done deal.

15. Don't forget...
..It ain't, grammatically acceptable use of the word "isn't" in certain locales of the US, over until the differently-sized socially subjugated person with female genitalia has raised her voice in a melodic series of notes!

i.e. It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings! ;)

Hope springs eternal!
