Seeking advice

I am at a crossroads of sorts:

I have a degree in computer science, but I've lost much of my interest in that field, and haven't done any related in work (outside of occasional fits and starts of building my website) in over two years.

I am a musician, and would like to work with sound/music professionally before the vigor leaves my body (the sooner the better, but I hold no expectations of getting to that point without a lot of time and hard work.)

I have a long-standing interest in "alternative" healing, yet very little experience, by my reckoning.

Some have suggested that I go into nursing. At first I scoffed, but lately I've been wondering if I might get more out of it than just a paycheck, and my S.O. thinks I'd be good at it.

I've been trying to brainstorm something that would tie all of this together, but I've yet to have any sort of "Eureka!"

Thoughts?

1. You could use your interest in music as therapy..
If you were a nurse. And it sounds like you might be able to write software programs for music therapy with your expertise in computers. So that would tie all three together.

2. Just what comes to mind from reading your post...
music therapy--which is used in hospitals, clinics and alternative therapy centers for healing. You could probably find more out about it by googling "music therapy career."

Some nurses specialize after their basic education with more study. There may be a way to combine the two. Or you could be a nurse that does music in your spare time. I've known of nurses that work three twelve hour shifts a week, that leaves them time to pursue other interests.

You may be able to combine your computer background with music--by creating music for computer games, video games, etc. I understand this is a BIG area these days!

Hope some of this was helpful!

3. I use reiki in my nursing practice
It a wonderful connection with a patient.

We definately need some more good nurses too,
a large population of the nursing work force
is nearing retirement age.

good luck in your journey

4. thank you all

music therapy: I've looked into that a little and found that a master's degree is required, which I find overly daunting at this time. I don't know if I can handle that right now without having a job that pays more than I currently make and from which I can at least gain some satisfaction, if not enjoyment. I hope that nursing can provide me with such secure base from which to launch other projects, but I must gain enough understanding of myself and of the nursing field to judge whether it would be a good choice for me.

music therapy software: I've actually had thoughts along those lines recently, although nothing concrete. I have this "Lightstone" biofeedback interface from Wild Divine that may have some potential for that sort of project, if I can get my hands on the SDK.

sound, music for computer games: funny you should mention that; my now-waning love of video games had a large part in me getting a degree in computer science. I don't think I could make a career of that; there are too few games that I enjoy anymore, and too few that I think I'd enjoy scoring. Again, I'd need a comfortable base from which to launch something like that, to avoid starvation and to buy the extra equipment that I'd need.

reiki: I've been meaning to get more familiar with that. There's a practitioner not far at all from where I live who I think is reasonably priced. I should go get a hands-on introduction. Maybe it will open some door in my mind to help me get through this uncertainty.

5. I ask that the Universe lead you in the direction that you need...
to go to fulfill your life work, crab nebula. (This or something better for the highest good of all involved.)
