Having trouble getting in touch with my guides.

Remember how we had that thread here a while back regarding Sylvia Brown's advice about how to get in touch with your spirit guide or guides? She said you should ask for their names on the edge of sleep each night, and you should have the answer by the third night. Well, I've been doing that for two weeks and nothing's coming. I realize that this strategy, as it comes from Sylvia Brown, may be questionable; my take on her is: when she's on, she's on, when she misses, she misses by a mile. But I still enjoy listening to her and I want to know the names of my guides, goshdarnit! I'm quite certain I have some. An aura photographer took a look at a photo of me once that featured me with this huge, orange aura, and reported that she could see indications of three guides who had probably been with me since I was born. I do feel that spirit guides help me from time to time, usually when I am about to cop out on a commitment I've made, or scared to face up to a challenging task. On a few occasions, I've literally felt a presence in my head saying, "You are going to suck it up and do X, because you said you would/you need to/you'll seriously regret it if you don't." Those incidents, in which I received crucial encouragement from...somewhere when I couldn't give it to myself, were some of the pinnacle moments of my life.

I would really love to know their names, but Brown's method isn't working for me. Anyone else have any tips for contacting or getting information about a person's guides?

1. Well it's my understanding that many spirits go by more

than just one name.

Rather than focusing on their names why don't you become more attuned to their vibrations and perhaps the names will follow.

Or in the interim call 'em Tom, Dick, and Harry. Kidding.

2. Here's a Thought

Ever work with a pendulum? If you don't have one, dig through your jewelry box and find a pendant on a chain (anything will do as long as it's balanced on both sides--in other words, it needs to be a ball-like pendant). Lie down on your back and hold the pendant over your solar plexus and have a paper and pen handy. You need to hold the pendant perfectly still, it will start to move on its own, reading your energy field. First say, "Show me yes" and the pendant will swing one way or another. Then say, "Show me no" and you'll get a different swing. To find out the answer to your question, go through the alphabet from A-Z asking what letters are in your guides names (yes or no questions). Ask for it one guide at a time with the letters in order. It may take some time, but you'll get it--your higher self knows. It's a good way to start a conversation with your guides also.

What helped me most of all in contacting my spirit guides was to learn to go into deep meditation. They can't reach through all the noise and "clutter" of the earthplane to reach us, we must raise our vibration in some way to meet them halfway. While in meditation, repeat the mantra "I'm raising my frequency". The pendant will help you to "get out of your own way" and let their voices come through.

In all cases while I was learning to listen to what they have to say I always felt like I was making it up. You have to learn to accept "making it up" and trust what is coming through. You will probably feel quite silly at first, but what the heck, no one knows what is going on except you!

Another excellent way to reach your guides is to learn automatic writing. This will lead you to learning how to channel on your own.

3. Sylvia also said that you can rename your guides if the name

seems too strange to you. She has renamed hers. I think you aren't listening carefully enough. Mine came through loud and clear on the second night and I almost missed it because my thoughts had trailed off to something else when the name came. However, I see no reason not to call your guides what you want to call them. It could be that they are trying to get that name through to you.

4. I can't get the names eithe... even in regression therapy...

I wanted to know my guides' names too and hypnotic regressions (past life and lives between lives) I focused on spirit names.

I got most everything else I wanted to learn, past lives, soul level,
soul jobs, soul purpose, just about everything, but no names. And the therapist kept asking and asking me when I was in trance. No luck. The therapist told me that apparently names don't mean much to me...

I did finally get one name, but he was only a minor temporary spirit guide.

I do know however know the name of my major guide, she is fairly well known and a guide to many.

5. Maybe they want you to focus on

whatever messages they're trying to give you, rather than on their names. I don't know :shrug:.

6. I think that's the most likely possibility. I have *never* had any

inkling about what their names might be. And during my recent attempts to find out, I have gotten the sense that a) they want me to be proactive about making progress in my own life and only utilize their abilities when it is absolutely necessary (ie; I don't need to know their damn names, I need to focus on taking responsibility for accomplishing my own goals) and b) they're kind of shy. And if either of those things are true, well, I wouldn't want to neglect my obligation to keep my shit together on the life progress front (sort of important for a person like me) or pry into their make-up or their system for helping me. That seems ungrateful to me.
