Dream Analysis...
Probably twenty years ago I had some intense dreams where occasionally, light bulbs would pop or explode. Sometimes it occurred over a dinner table during the meal, sometimes the lightbulb was almost out of sight in the room (I wasn't looking at it directly).

I never found anything definitive in my life to explain this dream symbolism. Does anyone have any ideas of what it could relate to from a spiritual realm point of view? (I tend to occasionally have a psychic connection to people I know.)

1. Dunno
Could it mean having ideas, like a creative explosion or something like that?

2. an item in a dream is an icon for you

it represents something other than what it is...

what do light bulbs mean to you? new idea -- i.e. "lightbulb" going off?

fairly good site: http://www.sleeps.com/dictionary/dictionary.html

typically, when I'm about to start a new project or make a change in my life I have dreams of being pregnant, being around people who are pregnant or there's a new baby around... my dream translate that "new project/change" as giving birth to something new..

when I'm overwhelmed - my dreams put me in an out of control car or one that I only have limited control over

if you keep a dream journal -- you may also want to make notes about what is going on in your life before and after you had a particular dream -- this may help to see patterns

3. Light bulbs
To see a light bulb in your dream, suggests that you are ready to accept and/or face reality. It refers to your consciousness. The dream also symbolizes spiritual enlightenment, hope, new ideas and visions. You are approaching a situation in a new direction. This is from Dream Moods. Therefore, I might think your dream was trying to tell you that your "spiritual" side is bursting all over. Perhaps you were trying to control it too much and the dream was indicating the desire for that side to "explode" in you. The ones at the meal, I think, might explain you are ignoring your "spiritual sustenance." The ones where it was almost out of sight might indicate you are "overlooking" or "just missing" your possible spiritual outbursts.

Since you also state that you have a psychic connection to some people, I feel you may be limiting your abilities; thus the popping bulbs! Perhaps you might want to explore expanding your abilities to beyond just those with whom you are close. Sounds like you may be a strong psychic waiting to "burst onto the scene!"

Does that help?

4. Edgar Cayce Foundation gives a course in dream interpretation - one of
the things I learned when I took the seminar many years ago, is that
dreams must be taken apart word by word, piece by piece, talking to the individual who had the dream.

In dreams it is not what it means to me, nor what the "cookbook" explanation is, but what IT; a thing, a person, an object, means to the individual who had the dream.

Another two things that were stressed in the course/seminar was to:
write the dream down as soon as awake, AND draw a picture of the dream.

The picture can be very self enlightening about the dream.

We all dream every night.

At some point, I was not getting a good night's sleep because of the dreams, so I told my guides not to wake me up unless the dream was very important. It's worked.

(very often when we don't let or know how to tune into psychic information/guidance/spirit during waking hours, the information will come in a dream.)

5. Thanks everyone! These have been really helpful and
thought-provoking responses. Some of it I had heard about and forgotten. I think the "bursting through" scenario was also very appropriate, also with regards to spirituality.
