German court orders self-proclaimed witch to refund fee for failed love

MUNICH, Germany.
It seems like an ideal court ruling for Halloween.

A German court has ordered a self-proclaimed witch to give her client a refund after a spell failed to win back the woman's boyfriend.

The client apparently followed the witch's instructions, carrying out a ritual over several months -- under a full moon. The client also paid more than 12-hundred dollars.

The Munich administrative court says the witch must pay back the money on the grounds that she offered a service that was -- in the court's words -- "completely impossible." The witch says she never guaranteed the spell would work.

1. That's what she gets for conducting manipulative magick
She'll be fortunate, IMO, if that's all that happens to her because of this. She sounds like a charlatan. No Witch I know would ever do something like this.

2. Since when do witches charge money...?
...for spell work? I hope it's not out of line for me to say so, but this person sounds rather unscrupulous.

Everything I've read (not a lot) on witches, the craft, etc. has stated most witches don't charge when or if they do spells on behalf of others. I've also read remarks from a couple of people practicing the craft that they look down on love spells.

3. I don't mean to sound presumptious...
or like I have a great deal of prior knowledge on this, as I don't. Too late to edit, just thought I'd add that. :)

4. Not at alll, you're exactly right.
Most witches look down on meddling with people's free will, which is what a love spell is supposed to do. Now, there are love spells that help the person be more open to love, which I think is not a bad thing, but one needs to stay out of other's "minds" as it were.

5. Thanks, lildreamer.
That's what I was thinking. I guess the person spoke of in that article, that claims they are a witch has some ethics issues, or may not even be a "witch." Unfortunately, I've heard of those that claim they are witches in order to scare people or have people thinking they can "do stuff." :eyes:

The few witch/pagans I've known (and of course not all that are pagan are witches), haven't really been "out" about what they are and what they practice. So that was a surprising element to the story, too--that the person seemed so open in telling people. Which makes me also question their motives.

6. You're right--we don't charge
We offer help, and we make no guarantees (so I believe the witch in question when she said that) as there could be extenuating karmic circumstances that would prevent a guaranteed outcome, and we intend for the best for all involved. (Did the witch tell the client to put in that qualifier, requesting "for the good of all"? Did she explain it? I hope so. If not, then she was advocating manipulative magic--by a nonpractitioner no less!--never a good idea.)

As for "official" payment--my elder charges for reiki, therapy sessions, psychic readings, and witchcraft classes, because that is her own business enterprise--her livelihood. For the rest--spells, house "cleanings", etc., we don't charge, but if someone wants to give us a gift (a token of appreciation, not usually cash), we accept it graciously.
