This guy who was just on the Daily Show..
he was a Nobel Prize winner Mohammad Yunus. He wrote a book called "Banker to the Poor". He says on the show that he has the perspective that one should have trust-based banking, and that they have been using this philosophy and it has been SUCCESSFUL. They lend money to anyone-including beggars in the street (not sure what country, I'll have to go look it up).

Do you realize how revolutionary that is?
I know people say they have this kind of faith in humanity, but this guy, and his bank, are literally putting the money where their mouth is.

It struck me dumb. I am amazed and humbled. It hit such a deep spiritual chord with me, that I just had to post.I'll go see if there's a website and post that later. The thought of this kind of faith in action is just........wonderful.

3. Bangladesh...and yes, the story is memorable
Microcredit has so many advantages over traditional charity, the least of which is that 98-99% of the money is returned to the charitable organization IN FULL. Opportunity along with the sense of responsibility given by these loans can lead to life-changing improvements in the lives of so many people. I hope his winning the Nobel Prize brings microcredit more into the international public radar and helps it take off in many other countries!

2. I agree with you, Lil Dreamer
There are lots of heroes in places like (oh the horror) business who are doing extraordinary things on our planet to make it better. It's great that Jon Stewart gave this man an audience.

5. He had a website and maybe still does called the Grameen
Bank that had advice how to set up one in your own community. I posted the URL in posts several times here at DU but couldn't generate any interest in it so I gave up.
