Update on my kitty Benny.

I had made an appointment with the vet for an exam on Monday. I couldn't do it any sooner because I didn't have any money until one of my checks came in this past Friday, yesterday.

He came in two hours ago with his tongue hanging out, panting and whining between pants. He tried to lie down but would get up whining because he couldn't catch his breath. It is a hot day so I tried to put him in the bedroom to calm down since it's cooler in there because of shade trees outside.

But he still had difficulty breathing and couldn't get comfortable. He would whine some more and had trouble breathing. Then I realized something more was going on. I packed him into his carrier and took him to the nearest veterinary emergency room. Well, they had to put him into an oxygen tent and give him tranquilizers to calm him down.

The vet is keeping him overnight for observation and to run tests and take x-rays. But the reason for keeping him overnight is to get him oxygenated and rehydrated. She says he could have one of two things going on. He either had an asthma attack or a heart attack. They will know as soon as they run tests and then they will treat him.

So maybe the biting spells were because he had these discomforts going on with him and couldn't tell me. Thanks everyone for pointing that out to me.

And to you, too, as I know how traumatic it can be when our little fur-friends are sick. Cats are a lot smarter than we think--when they act out of character they are usually trying to tell us something. I have a little ritual I do with the animal nature spirits and the over-lighting deva of healing for animals and I and going to do it for Benny right now.

I just checked in with the vets and they said he's still in the oxygen tent, but doing much better. Then they will be able to run the tests.

4. I'm going to go pick him up from the emergency now.

Poor baby has the beginnings of heart problems. However, the episode we experienced yesterday was an allergic reaction to a bee sting. I'll bet he thought he could chase bees like he does butterflies. I hope he has learned his lesson and stays away from the bees. He's usually good at not repeating a mistake twice.

6. Oh poor kitty!

I'm sure Benny has learned his lesson. Long ago, one of my kitties tried to eat a bug, but it stung her in her mouth. The reaction was quite terrible and traumatic for my kitty, but she never ever went near that type of bug again.
