Does anyone have any beliefs associated with owls? |
|
Such as anything related to them being omens of some kind. Or other meanings that one might ascribe to seeing owls. I'm just curious. Ordinarily, I try not to be really superstitious, however, I kept hearing something going "Hoo Hoo" outside the window and when I finally went to look, there were two owls in my mesquite tree which then flew off. I have never seen or heard an actual owl here.
I guess I am in a mysterious mood about this since my husband has been in Germany for a day or so due to a family member's serious illness. I also have not heard from him at all since he left, which is unusual. Any ideas? Or maybe it was just an owl couple passing through, saying "Hey" or "Hoo" to me.

1. We have owls living in our neighborhood trees... |
|
For the Navajo if an owl crosses your path it is bringing you a bad message from the spirit world Some tribes fear them others don't found this (I do not know how authentic or not this is) http://wolfs_moon.tripod.com/OwlTotem.html

I will check out the link. I have looked it up on Google and it runs the gamut from good things to bad things to just an owl.

3. While Owl sometimes symbolized death in native cultures |
|
it also represents the ability to see in the dark. Owl was Pallas Athena's totem and she is the goddess of wisdom. So what do you need to see? What do you need to let go of? Owl is also a messenger a la harry potter.

4. Owl's arrival can be seen as an invitation from Spirit to deepen your mutual |
|
relationship. Owl medicine can bring increased ability to see what is in the darkness, to draw growth and nourishment from it, and to do so under Spirit's protection. Owl is also the "explainer" of our masks, those things that are not really part of us that we wear and act out, that may cover our true selves, or, conversely, that allow us to act out our true but hidden selves. It is sometimes true that a serious illness in the family shifts the energy in your life, and that can be an opportunity for all to invite Spirit in for deeper work. So, Owl's message isn't really "bad," but may be portentious of change; change can sometimes feel like a bad thing, but it is, in the end, simply change.

5. Owls are wonderful in my opinion |
|
According to Mary Summer Rain; When seeing or dreaming about them they are said to characterize heightened observational skills and developed awareness coupled with sharpened perceptive abilities and wisdom resulting from high spiritual enlightenment.
They also used to be associated with all knowledge, "the wise old owl" is an old saying.

I associate them with the kind of blissful outdoors I lived with growing up in San Antonio. Whitley Strieber lived around the corner from me so no telling what kinds of goings on there were.
On the other hand, the owl is the symbol of Bohemian Grove. Wonder what their rituals say about it?

8. I hope they stick around. |

I am just south of you, and I swear I have never seen any. I have a brush pile in my yard, maybe they are hunting small critters that probably hang out in there. I hope I get to see them in the daytime.
