Most of the time the meaning can be described in a straightforward way. As with all symbols the meaning of the various numbers would vary for the individual.
But here goes for me for what it's worth, and probably not very much:
1. is like the first impulse, an action by itself without obstruction or balance, just a simple action. As such it's male in sense or yang, but of course all the energies are in all people, male only in the traditional sense of action or outward expression. Do in music. 2. is a balance, an accepting or balancing, feminine, nurturing or obstructive (necessary to cause the first impulse to retain and build). Re in music. 3. brings in a third or neutralizing influence, the spiritual influence. The third influence is catalytic and necessary for the fruitful expression of 1 and two. the triangle balancing body and mind with spirit. Ouspensky & Gurdjieff said that no manifestation or expression is possible in the earth without this third neutralizing force. For procreation e.g. it's not enough to have a male and a female. You need a spark, love, that old black magic, whatever. Mi in music. 4. is the enclosing of the triad that makes up the way the first impulse has played itself out in the earth. 4 is an earth number, the four sides or directions, four-square. It's a good symbol of materiality. Between 3 and 4 there is a pause. It's necessary to have some sort of additional energy added here. This is the half-step in music to fa. To get from the spiritual 3 to the earthly or material 4, takes a special kind of energy or the initial aim can easily go off track. 5. is a one added into materiality, so it's like action but now grounded in the earth. Activity, energy in the earth. Sol in music 6. is obstruction again, the addition of an addional force again, similar to a 2 in some ways, great danger of the earth energies being wasted or diverted because of this obstruction. 66 is even more unbalanced and sort of out of whack and 666 is even more so. The addition of numbers adds to the power of the state. La in music. 7. Again gains power and balance from an additional spiritual catalytic neutralizing force. A 7 is like physical mastership in a sense, a truly balanced being in the earth. Real power of expression, the human being in the earth, the 7 chakras, the 7 days and night of creation in the earth, etc. The numbers from here to 12 and above represent reaching higher toward the universal aspects. 8. Again the half-step from si or ti to do requires an extra energy to develop further and the danger is great of going off at a tangent or in a wrong direction. But 8 can also be a rounding off, a firming up, a double earth number (4+4).
etc. 12 is total mastership in a way it seems to me, representing all side of a person, the 12 signs of the zodiac, the 12 apostles, etc.
The 20 asked about in the post could be a stronger two because of the zero, obstruction at a mental level maybe or a possible coming of balance, the entering in of a second force, accepting and nurturing perhaps or obstructing, depending on the context or attitude that is to come (the 3rd force). A 32 would be a 5, activity in the earth coming and balanced by the triangle or spiritual base of the 3, outward activity, but based on a spiritual frame or foundation.
To me when numbers appear in dreams they are reflecting both the individual person's feelings about the numbers and the universal language of numbers. I think numerology is close to music, showing the way different levels of energy interact.
But I've had some really weird numbers show up in dreams. And they're always very specific too. I go to a restaurant in a dream e.g. and pay exactly $13.45 for the meal. This was just made up, but the order of the numbers would be important if this were a real dream, a 1, then a 3, then a 4, then a 5 and also the total of the number 1+3+4+5 = 13 or 4 an earth number, but also an action 1 plus a spiritual purpose, etc.
It's fascinating but I really think each person has to interpret this for self based on reading and thought and the situation. Anything like numbers or dreams or astrology or whatnot has to be used for our own purposes so it's more important what the individual thinks about the numbers than what somebody else says about it. Our purpose would determine whether or how the power of the numbers would work or express or interact.
It's interesting that natural memory experts (like the Russian psychologist Luria's expert "S" in his book about him, THE MIND OF A MMEMONIST (?), something like that) often automatically associate colors and sounds and shapes with numbers too, as if there's a kind of universal bank of symbols within us that these people are sensing that connects everything and makes it all relate.
