I finally had to do it - put my first person on ignore.
It isn't anyone I've ever seen in this group. Just had to share and I feel so much better not getting riled up by that person's posts. After 3.5 years, I finally had to do it.

I'm so glad this group is here.

Group Hug!

1. I've only ever put two people on ignore. The one was tombstoned shortly...
afterwards, and, after a few days, I took the second person off of ignore. It felt good to have that option, even if only used on a temporary basis. (I prefer the ignore option to getting into a flame war.)

I'm glad that you did what you had to do to take care of yourself, GardeningGal.

7. Ignore is great!
I have two people on "ignore." I put one one because their post gave me really bad yucchy energy, it was poisonous and I don't want to accidently step in another pile of that again and the other one was personally nasty to me.

Pressing "ignore" button takes so much less effort than setting an intention, writing the person's name on paper and putting it in the freezer. It's a great feature to keep toxic people away from you.

2. good for you
I usually don't post much elsewhere.

The past few days I've been kind of sickly - this flu or cold is really making your brains come to a halt almost. Only today am I finally functioning.

what has happened with your ... what was it ... court case? Did you and your daughter receive justice?

15. sorry...I just saw your post
yes, it's chugging along...:) Thanks for asking, Delphinus.

I have gotten one charging order against partnership interests for one element of the judgment. Small technicality postponed the other to next month. Problem is we don't know when or how a distribution will be made by the companies, but we are earning 10% interest daily until paid in full. Meanwhile the support agency filed an employer contempt on the company.
There are still several things to sort out.
So we are not jumping yet :)

Well, one jump ;)

3. Sometimes we just gotta do what we gotta do...
I have the whole GD-P hidden. This allowed me to take the five off ignore, from both camps. Two of them had been tombstoned and I honestly can report that bad memory comes in handy - I can't remember what any of them said specifically to push me to the ignore button. In my history at DU, I can only remember using the Ignore option for one person for two days.

It'll pass shortly and we will once again be on the same side - at least that is my hope. Every election year I tend to worry the party will split beyond repair.

If it brings peace to you - then ignore.

5. Thanks for mentioning the "hide" GDP button
I had forgotten about it! You just made my day as I put the whole friggin GDP as hidden. I no longer have to go to the latest page and have my energy lowered every day with these ridiculous, venomous posts.

4. Though I understand the ignore function to be necessary.
I've a highly functional flamefest and psychic ignore and disconnect thingy going on.

And I contribute regularly to the DUzy's Isn't that peculiar?

8. I love the hide thread and ignore functions
Makes my life here at DU much more pleasant.

Periodically I empty my ignore list but I have discovered over time that there are a few offenders that make repeat appearances. Two things earn an entry on my ignore list: (1) attempts to undermine or ridicule my values and choices and (2) behaving in such a manner that I would not host such behavior at a party in my home.

I can usually argue every side of an issue and I have my own asbestos suit. But I don't come to DU to go to battle. And I don't have to thanks to these features.

9. For the first time ever
Edited on Thu Mar-13-08 01:38 PM by votesomemore
I have two posters on ignore. They didn't come from GDP though. I can ignore anyone in there.

I don't like having hidden threads and ignores (although I love the options).
It makes me feel like I'm hiding dust bunnies.

10. Um. I have a LOT of posters on ignore.
As of earlier this week, nine of them had been tombstoned... waiting until after the Primary Wars are over in GDP before I review my list and reinstate some who I used to enjoy or tolerate prior to January.

I went from having one or two posters on and off it on a fairly regular basis to, well, let's just say a whole lot of peeps are on it now. Posters who feel it necessary to denigrate the OP rather than the issue at hand, those who attack other posters, racist posters, and those who post just unnecessarily nasty responses go on the list. And I am equal opportunity 'ignorer' too --- I have supporters from both candidates are on it. It had just gotten to the point that I was having a hard time coming to DU and I missed it.

The ignore feature is a very peaceful solution to a whole lot of ugly going on right now up front.

11. I wonder if this site has been infiltrated by people who seem bent on
causing chaos and dissention. I see a lot of mudslinging and no positive solution based discussions.

13. Yep. That's it. After the DEM candidate is determined
they will all flit away like a bad dream. Or that's my hope. Some of them are paid operatives. Some are on their mission with their own agendas to disrupt. I have absolutely no guilt removing their posts from my sight. Makes surfing thru threads a whole lot easier.

12. Your peace of mind is worth more than puting up with someone
I have several people on Ignore, and they will probably stay there until after the primary season. I see no point in letting another poster get me angry. So kudos to you--and a hug right back!

14. Ignore and hide a thread are great functions because
they act as a filter to the posts you don't want to read anyway. I clean out my ignore list every now and then and find most of them have been tombstoned in the interim. The hide a thread function unclutters the post lists so that the posts that you want to read and are interesting have a better chance of being all on on the same page. It really makes DU more enjoyable. I'm at the point in my life that I don't need the clutter of paid trolls in my path. I think you will find the same.

I am shocked - who are these new DU'ers?

I do not engage in such utter ignorance, even though I was tempted...
