April 2008 Prayer, Light & Healing Requests Thread
For the expanding grandeur of Creation,
worlds known and unknown,
galaxies beyond galaxies,
filling us with awe and challenging our imaginations:

We give thanks this day.

For this fragile planet earth,
its times and tides, its sunsets and seasons:

We give thanks this day.

For the joy of human life,
its wonders and surprises, its hopes and achievements:

We give thanks this day.

For our human community,
our common past and future hope,
our oneness transcending all separation,
our capacity to work for peace and justice in the midst of hostility and oppression:

We give thanks this day.

For high hopes and noble causes, for faith without fanaticism,
for understanding of views not shared:

We give thanks this day.

For all who have labored and suffered for a fairer world,
who have lived so that others might live in dignity and freedom:

We give thanks this day.

For human liberty and sacred rites;
for opportunities to change and grow, to affirm and choose:

We give thanks this day.

We pray that we may live not by our fears but by our hopes,
not by our words but by our deeds.

we give thanks this day - o. eugene pickett

1. What a powerful and beautiful prayer!
Thank you so much for volunteering this second time to coordinate this thread, AZDem.

Thanks also to Delphinus for all of the love and care that she gave to the March threads. She is a beautiful being of love and light.

I ask that the Universe bless you both for this service.

May all requests from past prayer threads that still need energy continue to benefit from the energy that is placed into this thread.

I especially like this part:
For our human community,

our capacity to work for peace and justice in the midst of hostility and oppression

Thank you.

I add my energies to your energies for this prayer to be realized.

7. Need physical strength, endurance and ability to melt ice with one glance
Seriously my Mother and I need some extra oomph badly right now. We are both still worn from having a bad flu but we can't rest. You see we live in my Grandmother's house in the winter as our home is on a dirt road that the neighbors are supposed to collectively maintain. The road is rutted and has some big steep hills so in winter it is quite dangerous to drive on. Before my Dad passed on he and a few of the men kept it safe to drive on but right after he died the few who bothered to care for the road moved or are in not healthy enough to work on it. A few people refuse to chip in when dirt has to be hauled in to fill car eating holes or at least pay a part of the gas for plowing in the winter. Well since my Grandparents go south in the winter she lets my Mom and I move into her little house for the winter. It is a real pain in the every-muscle-in-the-body especially with 10 cats (yes we are nuts) and me with my agoraphobia but it is better than dealing with those icy hills. We do need to get out of there but there are issues there to deal with as well. Anyhoo until then this is what we do to keep as safe as we can. The problem now is it is time to move back as my Grandparents will be back shorty with unchangeable tickets, get someone in to open up the house, drain the goop put in the pipes in the fall to keep 'em from freezing, etc. but there is one rather large problem. A big block of ice and snow, mostly ice, plowed halfway up our driveway. A neighbor was paid to keep the driveway clear but he did not plow after every storm or even every other storm. A couple week ago when my mom went to check the driveway was waist high with layers of ice and snow from a series of icey snow storms that hit every week for over a month. The guy couldn't plow it without wrecking his plow and he said he would try when it melted some. Well he did but all he did was pile it up halway up the driveway that was shoulder to head high when i stood in front of it and I am 5' 7" and over a yard thick. argh. And so my mother and I have been going up there when she gets out of work to hack at it with an axe and spade trying to chip the blasted thing away. We have gotten it down to waist height but oy. There is no way around the drive way because of trees and big rocks so we have to get through so the fellow Mom hires to open the house up can drive up close to the house and get his pile of equipment in this Friday. We have no handy friends or relations who can help with this so it's just me and my nearly 70 year old Mom who I have to practically sit on to get her to rest. Thank Goddess/God/All That Is she is as sturdy as she is stubborn!!! But still we could use some help to keep us healthy, uninjured, and mobile (not knotted up with aching muscles) and maybe, if it won't upset nature, a little energy to keep the weather warm to melt that block of ice to the point it low enough for a 4wheel drive vehicle to get over.

I am so blessed that my guies have really come through for me so far keeping my energy up when I am hacking away and I am just a little sore which is a shock as I have been vegging out ever since I got the flu and have a back that likes to go out badly at least once per year. Between them, self-Reiki (and Reiki to Mom), and a hot shower I am doing great and Mom is too. I just want to make sure if at all possible we keep on going until the driveway is driveable and we have hauled ourselves and the puddy tats back home.

And continued energies both to you and your Mom.

20. We cleared the way and survived
My back started to go into spasm but thankfully I was good enough to finish the job tonight. Normally stuff like this would have me curled up in a ball unable to move without heavy duty muscle relaxants. I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy to say I am still fully, if stiffly and achily, mobile Thanks to all of ya'll and that wonderous invention the Heating Pad (cue celestial music and sun beam). I *know* the experts say put ice on injury but that just makes the spasms worse. Heat relaxes the muscles and keeps it from getting worse.

40. That is what I am working on visulizing in our next home on a *real* road
and I am trying to convince my dear Mom to give the Universe a chance to bless us with a lovely little home on a couple acres of land. I try to spring it on her out of the blue and speak as if it is only a matter of time for it to happen saying things like 'won't it be nice when we have a house with wood floors again like when I was little?' and 'I can't wait until we move and can have a nice garden in the rich soil'. It is also good for my agoraphobia to face the fact that we *will* be moving like it or not so get over the anxiety NOW!

15. I'd like to ask for healing energy and light to be sent to our beloved group.
May all who are hurting feel the love that we in the group feel for them. May forgiveness then ensue.

I ask that those holy beings that work with us in these request threads help us to heal whatever rifts have formed amongst us so that we can continue to do the important work that we do in this sacred forum. (This or something better for the highest good of all involved.)

But in this case, chopping with an ax is not a solution. Melting is the way to go.

22. Update on my angry brother
as if it couldn't get more bizarre. He wouldn't use the Kroger discount card my mother lent him so that he could get the 10c/gallon off. Mom asked for it back. He mailed it :wtf: --they don't live more than 10 miles apart. He mailed the card back rather than stop over and get his mail and see the cat. We (mom, dad, my other brother, and I) were shocked that he'd go this far. Don't know what more to do.

24. Know this is hard on your mom, especially
As a mother I know how I would feel. This same type situation came up in my husband's side of the family, and it is such a helpless feeling. Let her know that your brother isn't truly being himself when things like this happen, and that it is beyond her control. Just being there for her is going to be so comforting for her.

I will pray that your brother finds the help that he needs.

30. Having to deal with something similar to this in
my own family (sister and mother), I truly feel your pain.

As for knowing what to do, I think that first step is to know that there are lessons here for everyone; I urge you to step back so that you may see a broader perspective. From there you will be able to practice non-attachment.

When you have a moment, take the time to draw a deep breath, quiet your mind and heart, and embrace the silence. When you have reconnected with your loving place, simply send love. Not for any outcome in particular; just send love.

And know you are not alone in this - we hold you in loving light.

42. In the braggadocios tradition of dear MG and her darling and most worthy
little "bright eyes" boy, I'm deeply amazed by what my kid did yesterday.

Don't want to start an individual thread though because it's a prayer request.

This may sound trivial.

My son has had long hair, far past his shoulders, for over well over four years. I love long hair on guys (<<<<<<<<<hippie wannabee but I was too young to really qualify). LOL

I told him that it's best to trim one's hair every three months or so.

He didn't really take to the lady who trims mine in her kitchen for next to nothing.

So through a friend of his mom, I found a nice young stylist who consistently did a wonderful job.

Well he was oddly resistant to having his hair cut for 6 months last year. He and I argued about having 2 or 3 inches cropped off last summer. I thought he should have 3 cut off. He had last than 2 cut off. I just said, "well you'll have to get another haircut that much sooner, but it's your hair. You do as you like."

Then more than 7 months past. He didn't want to get a haircut at all throughout that period though I offered regularly. His hair was way past his shoulder blades.

Yesterday, he told me to make an appointment and the nice stylist surprisingly had some time available.

My folks of course, much prefer short hair and have been bothered by his hair length for years.

He asked me to measure his hair.

He had gone to the Locks of Love website and wanted to make sure it was long enough to donate.

Then he funnily kept saying, "I can't remember having short hair. . .I can't believe I'm gonna have short hair. . ."

He faked out his grandparents totally by saying he'd only be having an inch trimmed off.

They were totally annoyed.

I morphed into a total jerk and was flipping out for a while as though a simple haircut was equivalent to an amputation.

My mom even bitched to her bridge club last night about how she wouldn't even notice the difference.

I meddlesomely called the stylist and told her she didn't have to go to extremes. She kindly called me after the haircut to make sure I thought it was okay. I did.

When my mum saw him late last night she funnily screamed. LOL

I'm about to send his two longer than 10 inch braids to Locks of Love.

I feel like I'm sending away his youth in a way. He looks so grown up now.

I'm just asking that additional energy be sent to whatever young child requires healing and a whig.

It says on the Locks of Love site the 6-8 ponytails are required for whigs.

I just hope this small but noble gesture inspires one little one to heal and to regain their confidence and self esteem.

I don't think I've ever been more proud of him.

/braggadociosness

45. Oh, you brought tears to my eyes, stella! What a noble act.
I'm not surprised that he's your son. :loveya:

Much light and energy to the future beneficiary of his generosity.

What I find amazing is that it sounds as though he's been planning this for a while, and he could have taken the heat off of himself if he had made his intentions clear. However, he didn't because he wasn't doing it for the praise -- he was doing it as an act of love and compassion and didn't want it to be about him. Congratulations on drawing such a wonderful soul to you, stella.

50. Ya know. . .your insights on this motivated me to ask him for how long he'd been thinking
about doing this.

He's got a Cancer Moon conjunct Chiron (not an especially good reflection on me) and three planets in the 12th in Leo (Venus and Mars exactly conjunct Jupiter), and Virgo rising.

He said he was only conscious of wanting to do so for a couple months.

I asked him when he first went to the Locks of Love website. He said that it wasn't until really recently.

But given his seemingly inexplicable resistance to having his hair cut for well over a year, I think he was pondering it unconsciously for that long.

Still I'm so glad he did it.

OMG he totally looks so much taller and older now.

We just went to the consignment store and I'm fairly good at finding quality textures for next to nothing.

He's even more of an ace than I.

He found a T shirt last summer that had amazing texture. I thought it might be combed cotton. But get this. It is made of bamboo fibers.

I'd never heard of that before but it makes sense given what people say about textiles comprised of hemp.

We could do so much better than subsidizing corn for high fructose corn syrup and ethanol.

Yikes.

Thanks for motivating me to get the details.

68. Well....
I probably didn't express that very well.

Detach only in the sense that you can have tremendous compassion for someone's suffering - and do one's best to help in any way possible - without taking on the entire emotional burden.

Does that make sense? I have always allowed my energy to get sucked in to anything that affects me emotionally - and a LOT affects me emotionally. LOL. I was involved in a lot of shelter work about 20 years ago and...well, let's just say I very much admire those who deal with the pain and suffering of others directly and intimately on a daily basis and are effective in what they do. I admire them beyond words.

(((((((((((((((((((((((crickett))))))))))))))))))))))))))

May you eternally recognize that you have divine protection.

And here. . .

Since Arabic languages are far more multi leveled and somewhat more poetic than Greek, Latin, and English, I've long been intrigued by the scholars who are fluent in Hebrew and Aramaic who translate the verses directly into English. It's entirely guilt free. LOL

"Lord’s Prayer*

Oh heavenly source of all radiance

Soften the ground of our being and carve out a space within us where your Presence can abide.

Fill us with your creativity so that we may be empowered to bear the fruit of your mission.

Let each of our actions bear fruit in accordance with our desire.

Endow us with the wisdom to produce and share what each being needs to grow and flourish.

Untie the tangled threads of destiny that bind us as we release others from the entanglement of past mistakes.

Protect us from being seduced by that which would divert us from our true purpose, but illuminate the redemptive opportunities of each passing moment.

For you are the ground and the fruitful vision, the creative power and fulfillment, as all is gathered and made whole once again."

*Translated directly from Aramaic to English instead of the traditional translation from Aramaic to Greek to Latin to English

Hope that makes you feel a bit freer.

84. I could really use some light...
First, my youngest daughter, Victoria was involved in a car accident on Saturday. She has around 50 therapeutic stitched (to avoid infection) on the right side of her face, as the passengers side window met her in the front seat. Fortunately she had on her seat belt. She will be seeing a plastic surgeon sometime this week. Lots of gratitude here too! ... things could have been a lot worse.

Then today, Child Protective Services (where I work) received an Emergency Response notice. Austin is going to shelter 100 of the women and children removed from the LDS compound in El Derado. We will be putting in overtime to "man" the 24-hour shelter - length of time unknown. The children have never seen crayons, so we will be going into unchartered waters to service these residents and show love and respect to those who have endured things beyond our wildest imaginations and who hold beliefs that we do not have or understand.

So I ask for light and balance - and lots of strength to get my daughter through a tough time and lots of doctor's appointments and be with her when she needs me (she is 19 and does not live at home, but only a couple of blocks away)and at the same time the strength left over to honor, respect and love people that will be coming into, what will be for them, a very strange place. I will have sporadic 16-hour days for a while and some weekends.

We are never given more than we can handle - right?

Thank you - I read and send light regularly, but seldom post.

Thank goodness her injuries were not far worse.

Remember perhaps that vitamin E and aloe help topically applied alternately for epithelial healing post op.

As to Austin, he's a kid you know through your work or so you suggest ?

How could kids never see crayons? My kid's not graphically talented but that's just plain sad.

May he and they get more than the support they require.

And may your daughter heal up quickly and gracefully.

best.

Yikes we had a similar circumstance where allegedly illegal immigrants were abducted from their homes, incarcerated, taken hundreds of miles from their homes, and their little kids were left alone.

It was utterly inhumane and completely cruel.

102. Oh, what a week you have had
First, many thanks that your daughter is safe, though she faces some challenges. But that experience is very unsettling (understatement). If she tends to relive things, or re-enact the accident, have her think of it, as she puts her hand on her forehead, while you stimulate acupuncture points by very lightly tapping on points on each side of her spine. You can kind of spread your fingers apart, start at the top of the spine and go down, several times. That will help her integrate the experience of the wreck (if she needs that). I've done that with similar type things with my kids and it works pretty well. Sometimes they will dream about it, and wake up feeling better (emotionally).

As far as the sect is concerned, bless you all and everyone involved that is trying to help in this situation. And to have this come at the same time as your daughter's accident is nothing less than overwhelming. I am sending love to all involved. The call from the sixteen year old--I am giving thanks for her wisdom to make that call. No matter what the program, there is something innate in people that knows right from wrong, no matter what the programming, and there is a spirit in all of us that can break free. And, most importantly, there are people that really, really want to help.

And bless you, people of Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, and El Dorado, and everyone in Texas who is dealing with this. This is a job for some, but this is far more than a job. Love and light to all concerned!!

Thank you for sending love and light here. I do it to, but do not always post in this thread.

108. More about the author of this lovely prayer.
The Rev. O. Eugene Pickett was President of the Unitarian Universalist Association from 1979 to 1985. An award in his name is given out every year to a Congregation that does the most to advance Unitarian Universalism.

This morning’s reading is quotations by the Reverend O. Eugene Pickett, president of the Unitarian Universalist Association from 1979 to 1985 taken from a his biography written by the Reverend Tom Owen-Towle.

“Because we are individualist, we tend to distrust our institutions. Because we are Congregationalists, we tend to support associative action reluctantly. Because we are nonconformists, we tend to resist the lessons of the past, many of which warn us of mistaking rhetoric for substance and embracing an arrogant, if not excessive, individualism which can be destructive of the common good.

“Unitarian Universalism is an idea, a faith, an international movement, an historical institution whose expression is more than congregational, but other than hierarchical. The key word is associative. We work and worship in association with one another, which is to say, in partnership with one another. The Association represents our best effort to walk together in trust and respect with all who value a free but organized religion.”

“The longer I am a part of this movement, the more convinced I become that the values and ideals of liberal religion can be effective only if they have a solid institutional base, and that means strong congregations and a strong Association. I know that we as a religious movement have traditionally been suspicious of a strong Association. We have been fearful that strength would mean power, rigidity, and control. But I am convinced that our Association can be both strong and flexible, an institution of which we can be critical while still being committed to it.

“We tend to be a contentious group of people. We are often harder on ourselves than are our fundamentalist critics. It is so easy to be cynical and mistrustful. But the UUA is what binds us together. It is a vehicle of our hope

.
“Those years as president made me deeply aware of how much we need one another. It is only as we recognize our mutuality, honor our diversity, and reconcile our differences with respectful honesty that we can build a strong and vital religious community. Being part of and nurturing such a religious community is what ministry is to me…

“I have found that I need you in order to be me, that we need them in order to be us, that only together do we have a future. Could we but accept and act on this simple but basic insight, prejudices would be undermined, injustices denounced, and exploitation of nature and people condemned. The world would become ours and all women and men us.”

I'm a UU. That's why I recognized the name. In my opinion, Unitarian Universalist Churches and Fellowships are a great place for non-Christians who are looking for a community and asking the big questions about life.

109. I would humbly and sincerely ask for the following:

More energy to do things.

I got the flu in the middle of February and I am still fatigued a lot. I can get out of bed and get dressed but not do a whole lot in one day. My birthday was the last week of March.

I went to my doctor and demanded that he give me ENOUGH Armour Thyroid (5 grains per day) that I feel good, which is far more than they think any one needs, so that has worked out well.

Another good thing: I got my hair cut the other day. THat was a good thing because it is thick and curly and gets quite horrible and unruly when it's long. I've been paying more attention to my appearance, getting out jewelry I hadn't worn for a long time, taking my vitamins, using moisturing lotion on more parts of my body, and such.

Just in the last week or two, I have been attending to small things that are creative or help my creativity. I am sewing a neck strap for my mandolin so I can play it. I have taken my two fiddle bows to a luthier (violin maker) so I can start playing again. Also have been thinking about creative things more often. Many of my sewing and jewelry making supplies are in the country house rather than the city house, so I have to plan between trips.

I have been in the process of cleaning out my parents' house (in the country) for the last five years and am in the process of moving up there. The big thing we have moved is 22 bookcases and books and vinyl records and videotapes and CDs.

Because my partner and I both had the flu, and he had an ear infection on top of that, we haven't felt like hauling stuff up there.

Also, with the bad economy, we have the problem of trying to sell our stuff through antique shops and eBay vendors, and they give it back to us because they can't sell it. I have a lot of nice stuff to sell, it's just that disposable income seems to be minimal these days.

Thank you to you all for your good vibes. I feel blessed to be part of the refuge that is the Astrology etc. Group.

 :grouphug:

110. Perragrande, I'm sending energy your way.
I hope that you start to feel better soon. I'm glad that you have been able to make some positive changes in your life, and I ask for the Universe to help you with your economic situation as quickly and easily as possible. (This or something better for the highest good of all involved.)

111. sounds like you're already doing it. Elorial taught me that you need
to declutter and move stuff out to keep the energy flowing.

sounds like you're well on your way, but in the meantime here's a hug

113. If I may...
a suggestion - The Great Give Away
items you could not sell may find some new owners, who will enjoy them when given away...

You will see Universe has an incredible way to recycle the goodwill.

Energy & light to you.

114. I've already taken several carloads of stuff to the local resale shop
which benefits the local women's shelter through the auspices of the D.A.'s office.
