1. I saw that and was tempted to post a response but thought better of it
given all the atheists and agnostics who lurk in that particular forum.

Sheesh it's just a 5000 year old craft. There are charlatans in every field for sure.

On another site someone was asking for descriptions of interesting jobs a couple of weeks ago.

I wrote this but didn't submit it.

I love what I do. I'm a self employed astrologer.

I'm more of a self described "cosmic cheerleader" who helps people with the timing of events, than a fatalistic doom sayer though.

I believe in free will and that it's just easier to work with the current cycles, than hit one's head against the wall incessantly when the energies are just not flowing.

I often say, "take a vacation from thinking about it for ________ (amount of time).

The most successful people for whom I've ever read have just intuitively known when to buy, move, sell, merge, marry, etc. because they are blessed with a natural sense of good timing. I just affirm their decisions and they don't really need astrology. It's as though they just can sense it and never lost touch with their innate alignment with the cosmos. However, I'd guess those types of people comprise far less than about 5% of the population.

Most folks are just plain impatient and want everything yesterday. I see more people shooting themselves in the foot with impatience than anything else really. So encouraging people to realign themselves with the natural rhythms of life is one of the more rewarding aspects of what I do.

I do private readings, corporate, and charity events. I also work a lot at colleges and high schools. I love working with the kids and they recognize me as a card carrying member of the eccentric fringe and I won't tell their folks so they tell me EVERYTHING. LOL

Aside from the timing, a good percentage of what I provide the kids is just common sense. Kids live in such fear these days, a good deal of my efforts involve dispelling that fear.

Though I love what I do, one doesn't enter this field for consistency and it's an erratic practice at best.

If anyone wants to flame me for what I do or argue about the veracity of astrology, I'll admit that Sun sign astrology pretty much BS and is not what I do.

A chart is as vast as a life and people are no more only represented by their Sun sign than their left feet exclusively. I've been looking at my chart for decades and I still see new qualities to it.

Astrology is also not supposed to be used as a convoluted excuse for intolerable behaviors either. Like "I'm a jerk because i have Mars in Aries and I can't help it." That's where free will comes in. All placements have attributes and pitfalls. Mars in Aries can choose to be a trouble shooter or a pot stirring trouble maker.

In essence it's largely attitudinal. We all know those who were born with tremendous advantages who became self destructive and others who rally in the faces of repeated adversities. Ones chart is essentially a blueprint of one's potentials. They can simply work with it or fight it as they see fit.

I won't discuss what I do with detractors unless they read this book in it's entirety (or at least the glowing reviews) http://www.cosmosandpsyche.com/

I'll only quote Sir Isaac Newton in his defense of astrology: "I sir, have studied it. You have not."

2. hmmmm
No doubt people are "taken" by unscrupulous psychics all the time. This is some sort of EU directive. This just isn't an area that needs a lot of consumer protection, IMHO. I don't see it as a huge problem for consumers. Now, usury interest rates are a legitimate area of interest for consumer protection laws!! I don't know about the EU, but we are sure lacking in those!

My opinion is that there are probably good ways to get around the stricter laws. I wonder what this would do. "There is no scientifically proven evidence that forecasting the future is accurate. However, I can tell you that anecdotally I have seen some extraordinary cases." Now, if that were true, then I would think that it would satisfy the court and detractors.

They might need to say something like "Astrology is not scientifically proven, but I wouldn't practice it if I didn't feel it was valuable."

It seems like all this will do is just make everyone jump through a few more hoops. Overall, a stupid idea. But what else can you expect from the secular humanist crowd? They have a kind of religious fervor.

3. You can never make enough laws
to protect everyone from an unscupulous character. We can attempt to protect those who are most vulnerable, but why the witchhunt mentality.
