*CASPER my Pet Goat didn't make it she died early this morning, we are HEARTBROKEN
Edited on Fri Jun-27-08 11:03 PM by MagickMuffin
:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

I tried to be comforting to her in her final hours. I could tell she was slipping away:cry:

She was the sweetest goat I have ever known. She was gentle and very LOVING. She had a great disposition and stood her ground when Poppy became to aggressive. Watching them lock horns and butt heads was always fun to watch. Casper would get on top of the hay bale and charge down on Poppy. So cute.

She would even let Poppy mount her, I often wondered what the Fundies would think about us having Lesbian goats. I wasn't ever able to capture them to get a pic.

Poppy is gonna be soooo lonely. They had been companions for over a decade, and now she won't have her Casper to keep her company. I'm not sure how she will adapt.

Anyway I quit believing in Heaven and Hell, but I know that she and Charlie are together in the ethernet. I joked this morning that Casper and Charlie were hanging out and Charlie was feeding her pears.

The things we will say and want to believe when we are distressed.

Edit:changed the title

1. I'm so sorry, MagicMuffin.

The thought of Charlie feeding her pears again made me smile.

Much love and healing energy to those who love Casper, especially to you, your husband and Poppy.

Casper, Charlie, MrMagick and me were very close to each other. Charlie and I would gather pears by the wheelbarrow full and feed them to Casper and Poppy. The girls loved the pears.

Thank you for your support, I Have A Dream. I appreciated you offering your help.

I will add a final post about Casper down thread.

5. I saw your earlier post with the pix of the two precious girls
and sent healing energy but I was unable to post until now. I'm so sorry for your loss. I have never been around goats, but I love the sweet energy of the pictures you posted. I'm happy that she didn't suffer for long and I know you are too, but that doesn't erase the pain when we lose our animal angels. I'm sending good energy to you and Poppy.

48. A final post for Casper
Edited on Mon Jun-30-08 12:25 AM by MagickMuffin
It was hard saying Goodbye to Casper. She was the most gentle goat I have ever known.

After Charlie passed away MrMagick and me were responsible for getting MIL's house ready to sell. They lived on two acres and Casper and Poppy had a great place to hang out.
We would sometimes bring our lunch and eat it under the big shade trees out back where Casper and Poppy stayed. One time we had Mexican food and we were eating tortilla chips and Casper would stand up on her hind legs to get to our chips. It was so funny watching her. I made it a ritual whenever we would eat out at a Mexican restaurant to ask for a bag of chips to share with Casper and Poppy. I would also ask for loaves of bread at Italian restaurants as well. Casper had a sweet tooth as well. Loved cookies and cake.

We would always provide them with fresh veggies and fruits. They loved eating and playing together. Of course Poppy has always been the aggressor and would always eat her food first and then try and steal Casper's food. I would have to provide Casper cover so she could finish her food in peace. I would have to pull Poppy by the horns, or sometimes I would pick up a switch to give her a gentle reminder that she couldn't have Casper's food.

We live in the city and all our neighbors surrounding our yard loved our goats. They would give them leftovers, and limbs from their trees.

The last few weeks I would get a call from my next door neighbor that Casper had gotten into her backyard. She said she didn't mind that Casper was hanging out in her backyard, except she didn't like Casper on her porch. We had to fix the fence so Casper couldn't escape anymore. We didn't want Casper to be a nuisance.

It has been difficult not seeing Casper from the kitchen window, or when I go and feed Poppy. It seems so empty without Casper around. Her final hours were not pleasant. She was having a hard time breathing. The last time I was with her I kneeled down and she laid her head on my shoulder and rested it there for quite a while. But I couldn't stay in that position for very long. I went inside and watched her from our backdoor. It was heart breaking watching her suffer and not being able to do anything more. We were so hoping she would get better. But we realized it was a long shot and it just wasn't meant to be.

Saturday I had to prepare for MIL's birthday party later that night, so that kept me occupied for most of the day. I baked a cake, and made homemade ice cream. Casper would have enjoyed eating the left over cake.

Anyway Thank everyone for offering me support. It really helped knowing there are people that show such an out pouring of love and general well being. It means a lot to me.

I'm so sorry. I know how hard it is to lose a non-human family member. I know that Casper is well, where ever she is.

Poppy will be lonely; you may find that she will bond with any other animal you have for company.

I currently have one lone sheep, a yearling ewe that didn't sell when I liquidated the flock. She was terribly lonely at first without her sisters and their mothers. She wanted in the house with me.

It's been a couple of months, and she's adjusted well. She started out hanging with my dog, who allowed it. When I turned one of my horses out to free range with her on the spring grass and weeds, she bonded with the horse. The family laughs about my mare's "baby," who follows her everywhere she goes.

I hope that Poppy will find comfort in another friend.

Well we only have inside kitties and three of them used to be feral kitties, born last year around early June. But now that I have them tamed they are inside kitties. Of course they have distance relatives hanging around, however my goat babies never cared anything about them. Our neighbors behind us do have dogs. Casper and Poppy used to butt their heads on the chain link fence whenever the dogs would come near it.

Poppy will have to adjust to being an only outside pet for now. We thought about getting her another companion but thought better of it. We'll just have to fill the void the best way we can. Hopefully she won't be too lonely.

Funny story about your ewe. At least she has someone other companionship.

Casper has a lot of support on the Other Side. We have lost a lot of cats over the years, and one dog Katonga Girlie, whom Casper and Poppy knew pretty well. The goat babies didn't care to much for her, and Katonga was afraid of them. Poppy used to try and butt Katonga, so Katonga didn't like to go in the pen with them.

58. I hope that you are doing ok
I thought of you yesterday as I was driving to work. I passed a raccoon that, I think, was hit by a car just before I drove by. I cried for a good five minutes afterwards. I felt such a tremendous wave of sadness as I passed this little fellow, and, it was very difficult for me to shake it.

Today, the little one had not been removed as yet, but, I did not experience the same feelings.

I think I was picking up on that little one's feelings as he passed on the first day (somehow, I think he was a "he"). I think he was expressing how he felt about the life he had had here.

When I think of your sweet, beloved Casper, on the other hand, I only feel love and trust. I do believe that he is a "happy camper" now, and, that you will see him again.

BTW, the experience I had on that day kind of validated to me that animals, like humans, have after-lives.

Sending you some healing and loving energies.
