I am frankly petrified! I walke up to nothing but blubbering idiots
talking - arguing - trying to say something that will change our world for the better..and I can hardly keep from hysterically laughing.

I never thought I would live to see such sad times.

I have money in fidelity..and I have 25 people telling me what to do...and
none of them make sense....
Do i wait?
do I bail out?
Do I just turn off tv
will I have my pension, and social security next week
I am scared!!!!

1. Oh, OneCent, I know it's difficult
So sorry it's getting to you. Yes, definitely turn off the TV for now. The waves are pretty high and nobody knows which way the boat is going to go. But it won't capsize entirely. PROMISE.

Take a deep breath. Go outside--is it nice where you are? It's sunny and pleasant here--warmer outside than in my house! (Yeah, gotta love the dramatic 11 foot ceilings...until the furnace isn't turned on yet!) Bask in the new season and enjoy the energy of autumn. The seasons change, and yet all is as it should be. Just so with our "reality"--it's time for the season to change. What will come will be correct.

IMHO, wait for now. These financial issues won't hit us, "the common man", immediately. Wait to see how this shakes out in the next few weeks.

2. Thank you so much MorningGlow for your response.
You can't imagine how much your note has meant to me.

I am crying as I read it...and it's nice to know that someone cares who doesn't even know me.

I lost my husband in July of 2007 and my immune system is totally upside down.
My nerves are shattered..I don't know what to believe. Turning any news on is enough to make you want to lose your lunch...so I'm going to watch some movie my friends gave me. Funny movies!!

I will go outside...I plan to go and fill up my tank and I need to fill up the tank for the tractor mower (i taught myself to mow on the John Deere) cuz the grandsons were wanting a tank fill up practically for mowing for me. I'm not helpless....lol

I appreciate the calmness in your response and it is beautiful here today in Missouri.

I'm glad you wrote me and I checked for responses, I was taking out my check book and savings account and going to the bank to bring it home and put in my safe.

I will take a deep breath and try to have a better day.

Hugs to you
Penny

5. You're most welcome, Penny

I'm so sorry you're going through a rough time right now. It's perfectly understandable that you'd be worrying. Did you rely on your husband for financial advice, or at least to have someone to talk it over with? If so, of course you're going to be feeling his loss right about now.

On a practical note, remember that banks insure funds up to $100,000, so hold tight.

Definitely take a turn on the John Deere! We used to have a Gator at our old house, where we had about 30 acres; I miss puttering around on it! :D

Also, be sure to spend lots of time here on the ASAH forum--we're a great antidote to the rest of DU and politics in general!

3. I have no advice, just wanted you to know that we are listening and care
:grouphug:

If you have a physical activity you can do when the stress hits that is a good time to do it to use up the flight-or-flight adrenaline. Even doing a couple laps around the dining room table if you have the space will help your body calm itself down so you can think without the adrenaline making you want to take off like a rocket in any direction.

7. You should be scared but fretting won't help.
Turning off the TV might not be a bad idea because there is no one good way to go. I took my retirement money out of Washington Mutual Bank (one of the banks threatening to crash) in January because I saw inflation coming and put it into mutual funds. My reasoning is that inflation will eat up my savings but a stock market crash might make my money somewhat worthless for a while but will build up again under a good economy. Right now I don't know though if those funds crash, I don't even have the FDIC bailout money for them. I feel I'm damned either way.

So I'm going to do what I always do and hope for the best. In the meantime, I got a part time job at the age of sixty eight because the way I see it, if some economic miracle doesn't happen, I'm going to have to work until I drop dead anyway.

8. I feel really sad for humanity right now.
I know that many people in this country and the world are really selfish, but there are also many people who are truly doing the best that they can who are also being affected. My heart is heavy for them.

The fear is palpable right now, and when fear's in the picture, it's never a good thing. :( I'm feeling it myself, but I'm working hard to stay in balance and not let it take control of me. I'm asking the Universe to not allow that fear to be used by the Powers That Be who are not looking out for our best interests to take advantage of us or to control us further.

Although I'm absolutely positive that whatever happens will be for the highest good, many people will be affected physically, and that's always difficult for humans, even those who are privy to some of the spiritual predictions that we've had available to us here in this group.

Personally, I'm trying to keep in mind that I came into this world with nothing, having been born into a poor family, and if I leave it with nothing, I will be OK. I have faith that what I need will be there, even if it's not what I necessarily want or thought that I'd have at this point in my life. It's difficult to have the rug pulled out from under us, but I'm determined to look back on this life once I'm on the other side and be satisfied with how I handled it all. I'm just going to take it one step at a time and roll with the punches.

I'm also trying to remember that I chose to come here at this time -- maybe especially to be here during this very time that we're going through now. I don't want to forget that I need to be strong for the work that might need to be done.

In the end, I'm hoping that humanity will be better for having gone through this. I hope that you are able to find peace and balance, onecent. Remember to breathe.

(Oh, and I've already lost over $100,000 in my 401k, so I do know what you're going through.)

9. Turn off the TV.
Let it play out. Take your money out and put it where? My BIL is buying right now as there are a LOT of good buys according to him. But he has a gut of steel.

I do trust Chris Dodd. I think that he has been working around the clock since Friday to get a resolution to this. I think he is an honest person and has been able to bring a level of reason to this whole that it lacked when it first slammed into the headlines last Friday.
