Who is hanging out at DU tonight?
I'm so glad to be at DU during this time. We've been through so much. I'm wondering how many of you all are around tonight? I may go out later to meet some people, but for now, I want to be here.

What are ya'll doing?

They made I voted avatars for every state!

There's also this gizmo at NYT that allows you to enter how you feel and it scrolls the moods of Obama and McCain supporters. You have to see it >

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2008/11/04/us/politics/20081104_ELECTION_WORDTRAIN.html?hp

I think if it is announced early enough, I will have to go out. Downtown is going to be a blast!

I am surprised at how frequently it is scrolling "ashamed" by McCain supporters.

2. I haven't decided what to do yet. I have been feeling
fatigued with an upset stomach off and on for a couple of days. I could go for some icecream though. So maybe I might go to a party and order icecream while everyone else is drinking.

9. I'm camped out here for most of the night!
It's MG Jr's birthday, and Mr. MG got him an XBox 360 and a driving game, so they're commandeering the TV. That means it's DU for me until Jr's bedtime, and then again after he's conked out (Jr. is one of those crystal kids want someone to stay with them till they fall asleep).

12. Thanks! He's 5 today
But it has been/is going to be a weeklong birthday celebration--had the "relatives" party on Sunday, celebrated at school today, got his major presents today, and then Saturday it's the Chuck E. Cheese kids' party. Gah!

Hee--saw that thread--I was just about to post it myself! :D

18. Oh smooch Bright Eyes for me.
Happy Birthday to him !!!

Your mentioning of Chuck E. Cheese reminded me of one of my oldest friend taking her kid to one of those a couple decades ago and was absolutely hysterical in telling me about getting hit on by the guy in the mouse costume.

I won't wish anything similar upon you unless you'd enjoy it for the entertainment value.

26. Smooches forthcoming
Tomorrow, though--he was so excited about his presents that he passed out pretty quickly and is now snoring away, building up energy to wreak havoc tomorrow. I don't know how I'm going to get him to school, with all his new toys splayed out all over the living room...

Hit on by the rodent?!

No thanks (and I think Mr. MG would pound the swiss out of him)--I just need to survive an hour and a half with 10 5 year-olds! Wish me luck! :hi:

may log in from her place if she will let me - she posts here too!

Isn't this over the top exhilerating! Spent 4+ hours today doing GOTV... too tired to nap - just vibrating!

Have some sweet potato pie to take over there tonight. Got the recipe here from a thread that indicated that Obama loves this pie. So, President Obama, this pie is for you!

17. hey votes
I'll be biting my fingernails over the keyboard (not literally but figuratively) all night.

I've been up since 3 am working on this blather.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x7741946

But then was AFK all day taking my son to check out colleges so I didn't get to babysit it.

How dare my kid grow up so fast. . . ? Yikes.

I just wish he could participate in voting in this historic election. But he's 7 months shy of being eligible.

In truth I feel a level of peaceful resolve about this election that I've not experienced before despite all the voting irregularities.

Congrats on your pending grandbaby. How exciting.

As prosaic as it sounds you're as young as you feel.

But the old friend I referenced up thread is also a Leo. She was born on Madonna's birthday in the same year.

When she turned 30 she already had 3 kids and she was so-o-o freaked that she ran away from home.

Ahhh . . . she scandalously took off to her sister's house for the evening.

That's when I perceived that firey placements sometimes don't always cotton well to graceful aging.

Two of my friends who became grandmums in their early 40's had very different reactions to becoming as such.

One who is also a Leo said, "Don't tell your folks that I'm a grandmum." She's an Afro American and I guess she was concerned that my folks would judge her but they aren't at all prone to cast such lack of compassion or unfair judgement.

The other is an Italian who looks very young. When she'd go out with her first grandson people would say, "your son is beautiful." She'd say, "Thank you" and not bother to correct them."

LOL

Time is a funny thing. How everything turns into slow mo when babies are little and how it accelerates so quickly once they enter school is really quite amazing.

34. Hey everybody
I'm home from an election night party with some friends a few blocks over. These are friends we watched the election with in 2000. When we all went to our respectives homes that night, we thought it was Gore for our next president. So after eight years of watching democracy take a beating, we had to all celebrate together.

Earlier in the day I phone banked for Obama. I posted about my phone banking experiences at

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x7758632

Tonight at our party we had lamb brochettes in garlic lemon sauce, chicken in mango chutney sauce, crunchy bok choy salad, shrimp & pasta, focaccia, and lots of wine. Apple pie w/whipped cream for dessert. Oh, and I made roasted jalopeno and tomato salsa. Sometimes we listened to NPR's coverage and other times we went to the media room and watched from the couches and chairs.

It was a wonderful day. On the NY times feeling page I entered, "Satisfied."

Hugs to all my buddies here. It's been a long, hard eight years, hasn't it? I feel at peace tonight. :)

Cher

35. Hey VSM, I've been here all evening
and I must say how relieved I am that all of the dark troubles I worried about have failed to come to pass. We have been lifted from our trouble and placed upon the right path. I am pretty sure that I'm going to end up crying tonight as I have been waiting my entire life for this positive phase to begin- yeah, tearing up a bit now. Thank you everyone in this forum, on DU, DU itself, and for the higher beings who have given us this opportunity and direction, for doing for us what we cannot do for ourselves. Please accept my/our humble thanks...

I was going to go to a party this evening, but became too emotional as the realization started to sink in that we actually have changed history. So, I sit here with tears streaming.
:toast: I'm glad to be here.
You here at ASAH will understand that I "knew" Obama would win like this when I heard that his grandmother passed yesterday. I thought that she wanted to BE with him and, I believe, that is she is now free to be by his side. I hope that he can feel this (and I suspect that he does).
A torch has been passed and I am thrilled for all the young people who are now energized. I can't wait to see where we go from here!!! :grouphug:
