So, my bed was shaking last night.
Kinda freaky...

I thought it was maybe my cat (sometimes he jumps up at night and cleans himself, and it makes the bed shake a little).

So last night it kept happening (again and again over the course of about 2 minutes) and I finally got up and the cat wasn't even in my room. Plus, the door was propped closed (not totally shut) so he definitely hadn't just run out.

I wonder what it was! This used to happen to me when I was younger and lived in a different house.

1. When that happens up here in Seattle
it is usually an earthquake.

2. Some people feel like they are vibrating or shaking just before going out of body
Some experience shaking of self or the bed when kundalini is awakening.

If you don't live in an earthquake zone and can't find even a minor quake http://quake.usgs.gov/recent/index.html maybe it is one of the above?

4. I hope it wasn't an earth temblor. Two minutes is almost too long but they
have been known to shake that long and even longer. It might have been an awake dream. I get those thinking I'm awake but when I actually do wake up I realize I was sleeping.

5. When that happened to me
it was a ghost trying to get my attention. (I was in a hotel in New Orleans that used to be her house.) Was anything else in the room shaking, or just the bed? That differentiates earthquakes from...er...something else. :D

7. The only thing shaking was the bed. In a side-to-side motion. n/t

9. I'd say that was an entity trying to get your attention
If it happens again, have some supplies ready--I used a purple candle in a votive glass and a stick of incense. (Votive glass so you can let the candle burn down without danger if you fall asleep.) The second night we were at the hotel I lit both, went into a meditative state, and told the ghost we were honored to be guests in her house, and if she wouldn't mind, we'd just stay a couple more nights. She left us alone after that. (But we went back the next year and our shower curtain rod fell down in the middle of the night! What a racket! We figured it was just the ghost saying, "I see you--you're back. I'm keeping an eye on you!" According to the records, she was a pretty cantankerous old bat in life.)

Anyway, since it's your house, you might want to ask the entity who it is and what it wants. Have you had any other paranormal activity in your house before?

10. Thanks for your advice. No, no paranormal experience in the
house that I know of (besides, potentially, this).

However, a couple days before it happened I was brushing my hair in the room, standing near one of the open closet doors. I heard some rummaging around in the closet, followed by what sounded like a little sigh (a quick exhalation of breath, anyway). I thought it was my cat, because he sometimes gets in my closet, and sometimes sighs. I looked in the closet and nothing was in there. No cat, no other little critters (now THAT would have scared me!).

So, maybe something is going on. It's hard to tell, but the bed shaking was disconcerting.

12. Sounds like you've got some activity now, yes indeedy!
Has anything happened recently to "wake up" an entity in your house--some remodeling, perhaps, or something similar in intensity? Our resident ghost was most active when we first moved in, because of all the changes we were making, but she's gotten used to us and quieted down since, even though the renovations continue (albeit slowly). I like to think that it's because she recognizes that people have moved in who are finally being nice to the house and renovating it properly instead of systematically destroying it, which is what the past several residents had done.

6. discussion of this on C2C
there was a caller on C2C a few weeks ago who had this happen. Then several others called in with similar stories.

I think it was the Halloween call-in show. I'll listen again and see if there was anything else they said about it.

8. cool
some kind of ghost was the first thing that popped into my mind. I was thinking of an old movie "The Haunting of Hill House" which scared the stuff out of me when I first saw it.

11. Never seen it. Was bed-shaking involved?
It's pretty scary when it happens.

14. there was a really scary scene
where the main character, a sort of mousy woman, was pouring her heart out to her roommate in the dark. Already established that their twin beds were near each other in the room. The roommate was holding her hand, she remarked upon that, how grateful she was for that kindness. Then the roommate turned on the lights, and the beds were on opposite walls. It wasn't the roommate holding her hand at all!

I was a kid when I saw it. It terrified me. The remade it a few years ago with Posey Parker, I think, as the main character.

15. Oh, quit braggin!!!

Sorry, but your post title made me giggle just a bit until I realized I wasn't in the Lounge.

As for your ghostie, I pretty much share the tone here that as odd as it feels at the time, it really is sounding like somebody wanting your attention. There was a poster here at one time--Ecumenist, I think was her name--and she said once that ghosts are not USED to people being able to sense them. I always kinda wondered about that and how awful that must be to feel so isolated. You may have had someone reaching out to you and that is most cool, I think.

You might try just sitting in the room and meditating for a bit and then just talking to your new pal. You may be happily surprised at the response you get!

16. That's true
In the research I did for an article on ghosts, I found that the conventional wisdom from ghostbusters is that people who are spiritually inclined shine like bright lights to ghosts, and they zero in on those lights.

In fact, when I talked with the desk clerk at the hotel where I encountered the cranky ghost, he was surprised she made herself known to me because our room wasn't on one of the two floors where she tended to "hang out". But he did say that if this tends to happen to me on a regular basis (it does, somewhat), then it's no surprise she went out of her way to check in with me.

17. I miss Ecumenist! She is the one who explained the strange
happenings in my childhood home to me. My bed used to shake there on a fairly regular basis. I was the only one in the house it happened to, so I don't think it was earthquakes.

I'm too much of a scaredy-cat to try to contact a ghost if there is one! But I'm just trying to get feedback from some of the "sensitive" types here, to see if they all agree it might be a ghost.

18. If it is an entity you could ask it's highself or guardian angel/highest guides to come and help it
in whatever manner serves it's highest good including crossing over.
