Who wants to take a crack at it?
I have a recurring dream that is driving me crazy.

The dream:

I am in school. Sometimes it's elementary school; sometimes it's high school; sometimes it's college.

But the same thing usually happens.

I go to class. I am not prepared for the day's lesson and leave the school, intending not to return to that class for the rest of the semester. Sometimes I bump into classmates on the way out and I talk with them about studying or preparing for the class I want to drop. Then I get concerned about failing the class so I return to the campus and ask to speak to a guidance counselor about withdrawing from school or dropping the class.

Any ideas on what it could mean?

1. Are you conflicted about your path
Are you trying to start or end an endeavor that you have thought about/been on for a long time?

It is about learning as well - do you feel that you aren't done learning something or aren't good enough to do something that seems to overwhelm you but that you wish to do or feel you have to do?

That's what came to me.

2. an anxiety dream?
School dreams always seem to me to have to do with anxiety and being afraid you won't measure up, won't satisfy someone's expectations.

Is there something you're being asked to do, in life or at work, that you don't feel prepared for? Or maybe just something that's not huge, but that you'd just rather not have to do and you'd like to get out of it?

6. I do struggle with anxiety from time to time
due to (unrealistic) perfectionistic tendencies

I'll avoid something first if I think I'll attempt it and fail

3. My husband has the same kind of puzzling dream.
But his is always in high school. Since we couldn't figure it out, it's always about how he feels in the dream. It's unpleasant but not a nightmare. That particular school was filled with thugs, both hardcore boys and girls and he was always on guard. I mean knife fights would break from the most ridiculous reasons. Then, of course, we noticed it was always when he, or we, had to make a major decision or were going through a rough patch. So I wonder if you're about to make an important decision.
I feel the counselor as a guide or the Higher Self. And wondered when you wrote, "I return to the campus and ask to speak to a guidance counselor," if the dream stops there? Perhaps the Higher Self is trying to tell you something that you may not want to know or wants to help with something. I say this because I dreamed once that I was with my wonderful high school buddies just enjoying time together. Then the mood changed and one of the girls said, "We've got someone here you need to talk to." My heart sank in the dream and a then a crone appeared to give me a warning. The dream truly helped in preparing for rough times that came out of nowhere. An intuitive friend of mine said putting me in a familiar setting was the only way a Guide was able to get through to me. Hope this makes sense.:yoiks:

7. We're in househunting mode
And we can't decide/agree on what area to settle in, etc. So yes it makes sense.

I also have issues with feeling like my desires are constantly being put on hold, disregarded, or trampled on.

4. Not being prepared for school is a pretty standard anxiety dream
But usually it consists of the dreamer being humiliated in some way (showing up to class naked) or sweating it out (not being prepared for a test). It's interesting that in your dream you go back and forth about the class and school as a whole.

One thing that crossed my mind when I read your post--are you facing some sort of karmic issue that you're ambivalent about taking care of in this lifetime? That could be represented by the class--you're not sure you want to take the class (untie the karmic knot) right now, but you have classmates (soul-group friends) who are in the same situation and likely will help you (studying/preparing for the class), and you talk to your guidance counselor (spirit guide) about your worries--how dealing or not dealing with this issue will affect your current life and karma.

If that's the case, just remember that we never, ever have to go through with dealing with a karmic issue if we don't feel like it. We don't get points off--we can just postpone it for another lifetime. It all depends on what you're comfortable with.

8. The dream came up again last night
And this time it was a high school math class (I hate math) and one of my classmates offered to help. He was a whiz at math, but even *he* was doing poorly in the class. The teacher had mentioned her disappointment with his lack of ability to grasp the concept.

So I wonder what THAT meant....

9. Hmmm...
Sounds like you're going to be facing something difficult and, well, "hard to grasp". I wouldn't be surprised if you have more dreams in coming nights that give you more pieces to the puzzle. Your post about househunting was interesting--buying/selling a house is incredibly stressful (she says, thinking about her two house sales and three purchases)--and if you feel that your feelings are not being taken into consideration, maybe this is a lesson to speak up for yourself...?

16. I've been having math/science dreams too
My dreams are pretty straightforward, I think I gave up trying to send myself cryptic symbols.

So I had these math/science/do your homework dreams until I dug out my old textbooks so that I can review concepts as I come across them in the day's news/reading... I think I'm supposed to review, that I'll need the knowledge soon.

12. I think this is simply about feeling unprepared for a challenge ahead.
Could be about the Path, could be about something else. There may be no upcoming challenge, just your internalized fear that one will emerge.

Maybe that was too melodramatic, sorry.

15. I think part of your anxiety about the
house is related to the national environment we are in: even your friend who is good at what he does is struggling, like many Americans. (Hint: try taking the specifics out of your description of the dream to look for a more familiar pattern. Then muse over those specifics and what they mean to you.)

I started re-experiencing school dreams and old locations when I hit middle age. Are you entering a new phase of your life outside of buying a new home?

Good luck.

We relocated a year and a half ago and I miss my old friends

I just tried to join an organization and was denied admission :-(

So yes, lots of things on my plate.
