An idea for the group
Hi. I was wondering if anybody here could do a lesson on how to do your personal graph. I've never known how and I would like to know how to do myself.

1. Sounds like a great idea to me!
I only get the 'basics' from looking through websites - I wonder if anyone else knows of an online 'school'?

2. Are you asking how to cast an astrological chart?
By hand?

IF that's what you mean, there's a very good reason why no one has tackled this here. I just purchased Llewellyn's new revised A to Z Horoscope Maker and Interpreter, and the part of the book that shows you how to calculate a chart by hand is NINETEEN PAGES long!!!

I tried looking for this particular information using Google, but I was unsuccessful in finding it; I found logarithm tables, Tables of Houses, Ephemeris's, etc., everything else but the actual instructions you would need.

This information is available in many, many Astrology books, but the process is so long and involved, I can't see HOW you could use any of those books without running into copyright violations, and I don't own enough books to do that many pages at four paragraphs each.

I agree that it would be helpful for those interested to learn how to cast a chart by hand, but I can't figure out HOW to help you do it. If someone can find the INSTRUCTIONS online, I could give the links to the rest, but otherwise it would be a difficult task.

Wish I could help. Suggestions would be welcome.

3. What I'm talking about
is like how people do chart readings for Bush and all that. Know what I mean? I'd love to be able to read myself with convidence but I don't know anything about doing that.

4. I would HIGHLY recommend that you find a class locally
Edited on Sun Jun-19-05 11:12 PM by Dover
This question comes up from time to time here in this forum. I think I can answer for most of the experienced astrologers here when I suggest taking a class.

Whether you are wanting to understand how to cast a chart (doing the math longhand instead of getting a computer generated chart) OR wanting to learn how to understand and interpret a chart, BOTH require study and are outside the parameters of this forum, imo. It's just too lengthy a process. It would be like asking a group of biologists to teach you a course in this forum.

There has been a lot of information shared here which would be helpful to those with at least a basic understanding of astrology and there are a few who have started threads that provide some of those basics, but if you REALLY want to learn you must find a teacher locally and put in the time. Sorry, no shortcuts or shorthand ways to learn it. There are some online 'schools' in astrology too, if you are the type who can self educate without the need for a lot of back and forth dialogue.

Otherwise, I'd recommend either going to a "new age" bookstore and asking if they know of any classes on the subject, or call some astrologers and ask if they or someone they know is teaching a class.

When I was first starting out, my stepmother, who was an astrologer, cast my chart for me and gave me a few basics which piqued my interest enough to want to know more. I tried to get her to simply TELL me more about my chart, but she wisely directed me to learn on my own, and she would act as a supporting influence only.
So I signed up for a class locally and really enjoyed it. I learned so much about astrology and in the process about myself (through my chart).

I'm sure the astologers here would be happy to be a supporting influence and answer questions that may come up as you learn.

How much do you already know about astrology?

Here's a thread that was started here, covering the basics:

5. Thanks for the basic link
I'll read it now. I live in the south in Tn on the conservative area so I don't know if there's any classes here in my area. I'm not able to do that now anyways. I'll try google though. :) Thanks. Oh and I don't know anything but what my sign is (cancer).

7. Since we don't exist in a vacuum......it ALL applies to us.

If you want to learn about your chart you must learn all the parts.
For instance, I don't have any planets in Pisces in my birth chart.
This does not mean, however, that Pisces has no influence. One analogy might be that if you were looking at a musical score for the piano, while not all the notes on the piano are used for that particular piece of music, they still define the other notes because they exist in relation to one another. You can't really appreciate a "C" note, without understanding it's place in the scale of other notes.
Also, though Pisces is not in my birth chart, transiting planets that move through Pisces throughout a given year will make an aspect (form a relationship) to my birth planet positions, so in order to understand it's meaning, I will need to know what that transiting planet in the sign of Pisces means.

Understand?

Of course there may be certain posts on the thread that don't have any direct bearing on astrology basics, which you can skip.

___________________________

P.S....when/if you do make the time to study astrology, you might be surprised at what you will turn up in the way of local astrology/astrologers even in your "conservative" area. So don't paint your possibilities with such a narrow brush, as it tends to act as a deterent to self exploration.

And, by the way, transiting Saturn (symbolic of discipline, restrictions, burdens and added responsibility, often difficult 'lessons' and a maturing process) has been in your Sun sign of Cancer for the last year and a half, which might have brought about some difficult times and a feeling of being held back. It's about to leave Cancer this summer and will enter Leo. So you may feel a burden or weight lifting at that time, and give way to expansion/movement in certain areas of your life again.
Since this country also has a Cancer Sun sign (July 4) you had plenty of company!

8. If I may add this, you could buy the magazine
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 04:26 AM by anitar1
"Mountain Astrologer". It is excellant and has many ads concerning classes by mail ect. If your town is very small, It may be difficult to find a class. I started taking classes at a community center that offered many different types of classes. Then went on to study with an astrologer in private classes. Plus read, read, read. So many good books out there. There is even a Community College here that offers
Astrology.Once you start searching, amazingly, things will appear for you. Good Luck!

11. Thanks!
I'll stick to the internet now. There are a lot of really good website's out there as well. I know the powers that be and God will float me to the right direction if need be. I have learned to trust my "gut" instinct because in the past when I didn't what my "gut" told me happened and I ended up kicking myself in the butt (well not literally but you know what I mean). Thanks for all the advice y'all.

10. Nice to know I'm not a lone
I've been having difficult stuff going on now with relationships with people. I had a lil argument with a friend and now that person isn't talking to me. *sigh* But this is nothing new with me so heh heh. But I'm feeling fine though except for the typical mood swings here and there and being a Moon child that is a normal thing for me. I've googled astrology and came up with a lot of good sites that tell information about myself as a Cancer and why I'm so connected with the month October and all that. I have been maturing a lot and can feel me changing and being more "feminine" so to speak. I'm very girly but I was in the past not so girly with makeup and things like that and now days I am and am wanting to be in a serious relationship with a guy and other things like that. I'll be sure to save everything in that other thread later this evening. I think studying astrology and figuring it out (I'm usually quite good at doing that) will be my summer task. ;) That way I can read myself and everything. Hehe. Do you know what sign will go into July? That's my birthday month so I was wondering if it's going to be a nice one. :)
