OK, what nickname do you prefer?
With all of these new names, I'm struggling to try to find what nicknames to call people, so I thought that maybe others were experiencing the same thing. (My real life name has a nickname that I absolutely hate. Therefore, I'm really sensitive to calling people what they want to be called.)

If someone's going to shorten your name, what name would you prefer? ...or don't you care? ...or do you absolutely hate it when people shorten your name? ...or is it that your username's so short that a nickname doesn't even make sense?

The name change prompted me to post this, but I hope that even people who have kept their original names will share with us.

Of course, there's no guarantee that everyone will call you what you prefer, but at least you've had the chance to let your preference be known.

:grouphug:

1. Ooh, call me Blue!
Great question. I know what you mean about real life nicknames. When I was a kid, I'd cringe when someone used a variant of my name that was a name many dog owners loved for their pets.

4. I guess I get a little bit sensitive when the K is left off the end of Magick
But I try not to get anal about it.

Other than that I don't mind if people refer to me as MM, even tho I prefer my full name.

And as my childhood nickname goes I HATED IT. My sister couldn't pronounce my birth name, so I got stuck with it until I decided I didn't want to be called by the nickname ever again.

7. I'm good with anything, too. I made sure my initials didn't spell
anything too embarrassing, which ruled out Blue Moon and a couple of others I can't remember right now.
:)

12. My real name and my user name
are both too short for a nickname, I think. In real life my mother, who had long first and middle names, went to Catholic school where she had to write everything out at the top of the page every time. For that reason, she decided to give me a short name, so I would never have a nickname. So it's Polly. Still people have sometimes called me Pol or Pols. I have also been called Sluggo and Clark, for reasons that have nothing to do with my actual name. :-)

But you could nickname me Cal or Cals, I suppose, instead of Callie. Or Sluggo. Or Clark.

15. Hmmm
Not too many things can come from mine, maybe Cele, or Bration. Not Bra!! I would say Cele, or make something up besides Bra. Ce is fine too.

I wonder how many of us were not entirely happy with our given names. There are all sorts of correlations between given names and various psychological outcomes. I was named after my mother and some great grandmother and just felt it was a little too old fashioned, and biblical not in a great way. My mom had a semi decent nickname, but my nickname was for family only.

Not the worst name in the world, but nothing I would have consciously chosen for sure.
